- Temple of Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil - Built during the latter part of the 1700s, the Kovils at Captain’s Garden, Maradana are believed to be the oldest in Colombo. The area had been an island with the waters of the Beira Lake surrounding it. Devotees had travelled by boat to reach the temples to worship and make vows. During the Dutch period Captain’s Garden was known as ‘Cilamagoda’ and was an area of great economic activity since the warehouses for cinnamon, pepper, coconut, oil and coir were located in this vicinity.
Today, the Beira Lake no longer surrounds the Kovils, but the railway tracks that are constantly busy with trains. Yet, the environs of the Kovils are peaceful and only the sounds of the poojas can be heard. The elaborately decorated Gopurams reflect the main deities of the respective abodes, Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh. The interior is beautiful and spiritual, with sculptures and motifs depicting Hinduism and culture. The two premises are connected by a central courtyard where you can worship both.

Great tour, even in the rain! - Timely tuk tuk pickup from hotel and I liked the diversity this tour has to offer! From temples, monuments over train stations to the bustling Muslim part of the city (incl. sampling some food!), tour was perfectly organized with the right mix of walking and riding the tuk tuk. Friendly and knowledgeable guide, and a great way to spend an afternoon in Colombo!

Top tour of Columbo - Not one for leaving reviews, but this one is worthy of the time.
If you do no other tour whilst in the area, this is the one to do. Professional, great communication, no unexpected costs (unlike other tours in the area)

Great city tour - I enjoyed travelling by Tuk Tuk around the city with my guide Ricky. Ricky was informative and provided great insight into the sites we visited (I particularly enjoyed the market). Collection was very prompt at my hotel too. All in all a great experience and a good way to explore the city as a solo female traveller. Recommend!

Colombo City Tour by Tuk Tuk - Fantastic city tour of Colombo. Lots to see and visited quite a few points of interest all pointed out by our tour guide Ricky. Ricky was excellent and very knowledgeable he accommodated our request to go to other places as we had visited a couple of sites already.
Highly recommend Ricky as a guide.

Best city tour in a tuk-tuk - We had an amazing time with our driver Ricki. He speaks good English and showed us all the main attractions in Colombo plus we had traditional street food and kottu for dinner. He modified the trip itenerary as we have already seen some tamples so that we could spend more time visiting other places. He provided us with cold water and also scarfs to cover our legs when entering temples. Very thoughtful 😊

Fun, informative and overall a great way to explore Colombo city! - I had a wonderful time doing an afternoon city tour with Mr. Maran (Ricky)! He was super knowledgeable, and made the trip so much more meaningful with all the insights that he could provide at every location. The trip was well paced and comfortable, starting with a lunch, then visiting temples, old historical sites, tea tasting, checking out some street stores and snacks. Ricky also was very patient and attentive, making sure that I'm taken care of with water, bathroom breaks, snacks etc. Overall, a great way to explore Colombo city when you have 4hours or so to spare! Highly recommend.

Great way to see the sights is a short time frame. - We had a great time with our tour guide. He showed us many of the highlights of Colombo and made the tour very enjoyable. Travelling by Tuk Tuk was a lot of fun, though my husband is 6’2” and had difficulty seeing out of the Tuk Tuk. Something to think about if you’re tall-ish
