- Temple of Sri Kailawasanathan Swami Devasthanam Kovil - Built during the latter part of the 1700s, the Kovils at Captain’s Garden, Maradana are believed to be the oldest in Colombo. The area had been an island with the waters of the Beira Lake surrounding it. Devotees had travelled by boat to reach the temples to worship and make vows. During the Dutch period Captain’s Garden was known as ‘Cilamagoda’ and was an area of great economic activity since the warehouses for cinnamon, pepper, coconut, oil and coir were located in this vicinity.
Today, the Beira Lake no longer surrounds the Kovils, but the railway tracks that are constantly busy with trains. Yet, the environs of the Kovils are peaceful and only the sounds of the poojas can be heard. The elaborately decorated Gopurams reflect the main deities of the respective abodes, Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh. The interior is beautiful and spiritual, with sculptures and motifs depicting Hinduism and culture. The two premises are connected by a central courtyard where you can worship both.

Colombo city Tuk Tuk tour - We had a great time with our Tuk Tuk tour driver Mr Maran around Colombo today. Lots of information and history from him. He walked around the sights with us telling us all about them. He also took us to a souvenir shop which was not part of the tour. Highly recommend this tour with Mr Maran. Ideal way to get to see the city, especially if you have not been before.

Great intro into Colombo - We had one day in Sri Lanka as visiting by cruise ship and this was a terrific experience. We had a great time with our guide/driver, Ramesh. The company communicated with us about pick up time and place. the stops that we went to were interesting and good way to get an intro into Sri Lanka. Ramesh was a great driver and getting around by Tuk Tuk was definitely a good way to see the city. Tour included a very nice tasty lunch and snack.

A little bit of everything - The perfect way to see a few different sides of Colombo in a short amount of time. Everyone in my group loved something different: the market, the temple, the old Dutch area, the coffee vendor. Lunch was also fantastic- one of our best meals in Sri Lanka! Highly recommended.

Well worth of doing it. - We did this on the way to the airport. We are so glad that we did this as we were able see the Colombo City. It was a fantastic tuk tuk experiance with visiting landamrks in the capital. Highly Recommend this tour.

Fabulous way to see the city. - Took this tour yesterday evening and it was fabulous . My driver / guide was Ricky. He was very professional, knowledgeable, interesting and fun. I recommend this tour to see the sights of Columbo and get an understanding of the history. Ricky went out of his way to make sure I enjoyed the tour. Thank you - Trish Linton

A fantastic introduction to Colombo! - Romesh was an excellent guide, who we’d strongly recommend to show you around Colombo. His polite manner and knowledge helped us appreciate the culture, history and feel of the city and its frenetic traffic!
Experiencing Colombo by tuktuk is a must and Romesh was a great driver.
In addition to visiting the key sights of the city Romesh had arranged street food and tea tasting stops which were great.
The highlight for me was walking around Pettah Market with Romesh showing his the diverse range of market stalls and products on sale.

Pick up location changed, not told, refund request denied - We went to location on our ticket info, a hotel…. 20 minutes of waiting, driver/ guide called yelling he was at the pier waiting for us….he refused to come to hotel to get us…just yelled. No refund, no refund…Viator chat rep agreed no indication of new location, however Viator will not refund….
