Additional Information

Explore La Boquilla and contribute to a remarkable initiative: The Madres-Cabeza de Familia y sus Cocos project (Mothers as head of their households and their coconuts). Established by a group of 7 women in 2008, this endeavor began with a crafts class funded by the ProBoquilla NGO. Presently, they craft an array of items from coconuts, including jewelry, silverware, carriers, vases, belts, and additional adornments, and are eager to share their skills in creating these unique souvenirs with you.

Crafting these items is not a simple task; extensive labor and time investment is necessary. Initially, the coconuts undergo a soaking, cleansing and cutting procedure, stretching over several hours. Subsequent to this is the polishing stage, an intense part of the process that necessitates multiple intervals for rest. Even though the creation of these products is labor-intensive, the end results are compelling. What makes the coconut crafts particularly fascinating is not solely the process itself, but also the incredible women behind them, each with compelling life stories that shape their remarkable characters.
