Additional Information

The start of our journey will be marked by our arrival at a sanctuary. Here, a blessing will be performed by one of our shamans before entering the jungle where our sacred place resides. This ceremony is meant to show gratitude to the primordial spirits of cocoa and honey for augmenting the experience.

Our skillful chocolate makers will walk us through the history of Mayan cacao, explaining the usage of its seeds. Moreover, we’ll be learning the process of making our own chocolate - from roasting and shelling the seeds to grinding them on metates. The choice of adding your desired ingredient to create personal chocolate blend is also available. A workshop on Maya bees’ preservation, the only stingless bees globally, will also be conducted as our sanctuary is keen on protecting them. The unique tasting honey produced by these bees is often regarded as medicinal. Participating in honey collection and making honey infused soaps and candles with your own hands will be an exciting part of this expedition. You can take one of these handcrafted items home as a souvenir.

Nice trip but not as described - First thing to know is that this is not in Tulúm, it is in Cobá which is about 45 minutes inland from Tulum. The description says you will make soap and or a candle- this never happened. We did get to taste cocoa beans and we all got to practice crushing them the way they used to do it. We did have a very small taste of a few different flavors of chocolate. Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us lots about how the people used to live in the ruins. They also did a blessing before we entered what used to be the house( now just a couple of rocks). He spoke just a little English, but we were able to translate most. The cenote swim was a highlight as well as a delicious lunch. I wish the description was updated as to what and where the trip was.
