A must see in Christchurch for families and animal lovers. - This is the most wonderful zoo/wildlife reserve that we have ever been to. What we love most about it is the flow of the park. In major zoos, it’s hard to ensure that you’ve seen every animal due to the layout. However, Willowbank’s planning allows you to follow one path through the entire park, ensuring that you get to see all animals. We also loved that you could feed the animals. We purchased farm feed from the gift shop and our one year old (and us) had the time of our lives feeding the animals- especially the lamas, alpacas and cows. The park was well maintained and we would recommend this experience to all families and animal lovers.

Great place. - Lovely place to spend half a day, learning about the different animals living in NZ. The space is well-designed and there are also places for kids to climb, explore and learn.

Kiwi experience - Though I’m not a lover of farm animals, my cousin was. The black swans captured my attention, they were beautiful but the ducks tend to follow the tourists for food. The place can be noisy with the feathery folks, of which some are uncaged. The kiwi enclosure towards the end of the trail was dark. One has to be very quiet to observe these creatures behind the fence. We waited near the fences quietly with other tourists. We spotted them in the dark.

Great afternoon at Willowbank - Seeing kiwis and being able to feed some of the animals. There were lots of baby animals when we were there which was lovely to see. One of our favourites were the otters.. super cute!!

Duck Lovers Paradise - We took our nearly 20 month old grandson. He loves ducks so it was a big hit with him and he enjoyed running around the tracks. We liked the wallaby enclosure. As adults, I have to say it looks a bit shabby and in need of a bit of a tidy-up. We're not keen on animals in smallish cages so found that a bit off-putting - one of the gibbons looked positively depressed sitting in a corner with his hands over his head. The staff at reception were lovely but our overall final opinion is that at over $70 for 2 adults (pre-schooler free) we don't think its good value. We'll probably just visit the duck pond at the Gardens next time.
