- Naritasan Omote Sando - Narita is a city situated near Narita Airport (previously known as Tokyo New International Airport) in Chiba Prefecture, approximately 70 kilometers east of Tokyo. The city is renowned for its historic and expansive Buddhist temple, Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. After disembarking the train, enjoy a pleasant 15-minute walk to the temple. The narrow path leading there is adorned with numerous traditional Japanese-style buildings, offering a charming glimpse into old Japan.
- Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple - This Buddhist temple boasts a history of over 1,000 years and draws more than 10 million worshippers from all over Japan annually. The main deity enshrined here is Fudō Myōō, believed to have been created by Kūkai, the renowned Buddhist monk who established the Shingon sect in Japan.
The temple grounds are adorned with many beautiful wooden structures, rich in traditional architecture. Visitors can also witness the Goma-daki ritual, a sacred fire ceremony where monks burn wooden sticks as offerings while chanting powerful sutras, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
- Naritasan Park - A vast park is located on the hillside behind Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. With its beautiful streams and ponds nestled in the forest, it offers a serene and peaceful environment.
- Naritasan Omote Sando - After exploring the temple and the park, enjoy some local cuisine at a restaurant along the main street. Unagi (freshwater eel) is a local specialty in this area. The eel is simmered and then grilled, glazed with a special soy sauce–based sweet sauce, and served over steamed rice — it’s absolutely delicious! (lunch is optional)
