Togendai is a well-known location in Japan, situated near Mount Fuji. It serves as the starting point for the climb to Mount Fuji’s summit via the Fujisan Gotemba Trail. Togendai also provides magnificent views of the surrounding landscape and Lake Ashi.
- Owaku-dani Valley - Owakudani (大涌谷, Ōwakudani) is the region surrounding a crater formed during the last eruption of Mount Hakone approximately 3,000 years ago. Today, much of the area remains an active volcanic zone where visitors can experience sulfurous fumes, hot springs, and hot rivers. Additionally, Owakudani offers excellent views of Mount Fuji on clear days.
Eggs cooked in Owakudani’s hot spring pools, with their shells blackened by the sulfur, are available for purchase at local shops, and consuming one is said to extend one’s life by seven years.
- Hakone Moto Tsumiya Shrine - Moto Hakone Shrine (元箱根神社, Moto-Hakone Jinja) is a Shinto shrine located on the shores of Lake Ashi in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It is a tranquil and scenic destination, renowned for its torii gate that stands in the water, known as the “Torii of Peace.” The shrine is nestled in a forested area, with Mount Hakone and the surrounding nature providing a stunning backdrop.
Visitors frequently visit Moto Hakone Shrine to pray for good fortune, particularly in travel and business matters, as the shrine is associated with protection and prosperity. The location offers beautiful views of Lake Ashi and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.
Moto Hakone Shrine is easily accessible by boat or by walking from the nearby Hakone-machi or Moto-Hakone towns. It is also part of the broader Hakone area, a popular destination known for its hot springs (onsen), art museums, and scenic nature trails.

The Hakone Open-Air Museum - The Hakone Open-Air Museum is Japan’s first open-air museum, combining a vast collection of modern and contemporary sculpture with the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains. The museum is a major attraction in the Hakone region and is designed for a leisurely exploration of art in nature.
Hours: The museum is open year-round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4:30 p.m.

- Gotemba Premium Outlets - The Gotemba Premium Outlets are Japan’s most popular outlet mall, located in Gotemba City at the base of Mount Fuji, not far from Hakone. The mall features around 300 stores and restaurants, a food court, a 50-meter-high Ferris wheel, a hotel, and a public hot spring bath.
The stores at the Premium Outlets are outlets of internationally recognized brands of fashion, sports, food, household goods, and electronics, ranging from everyday items to luxury goods. While the prices are not extremely low, they are generally more affordable than those at regular retail shops in Japan. Overall, it is a delightful place for a day of shopping, offering a wide variety and reasonable prices.
