Additional Information

Today’s itinerary includes a trip to the notable town of Chinchero, a significant locale in the history of the Inca Empire, perched over 3800 masl. This place boasts an archaeological site notable for its well-preserved andenes (agricultural terraces) and a sizeable ancient Inca stronghold, believed to be the birthplace of the rainbow. The construction of the stunning colonial church at the square’s base was finalized in 1607, built on the remnants of Inca buildings. Its prime altar is baroquely detailed, with gold leaf and honors the Virgin of the Nativity. Its walls are adorned with artwork from Diego Quispe Tito, the principal figure in the Cusco school of art. After exploring the town’s enchanting cobblestone alleys, you’ll be heading back to Cusco.
