- Ana Te Pahu - Lava channels traverse a significant area, connecting four underground chambers to form Ana Te Pahu, the largest cave in Rapa Nui. Its vast size made it ideal in ancient times; several umu (traditional cooking pits) indicate it was also used for food preparation. Ana Te Pahu is also known as the “cave of the bananas” due to the abundance of banana trees at its entrance.
- Ana Te Pora - A volcanic cave with its main entrance about 100 meters from the parking lot. This cave was used as both a shelter and a ceremonial site in ancient times.
- Ana Kakenga - A volcanic cave where lava flowed into the sea, creating two openings or “windows” that lead directly to the cliff. Also known as the “cave of the two windows,” this cave extends about 50 meters. It served as a “kionga” or place of refuge in ancient times.
- Ahu Te Peu - Ahu Te Peu is an area of high archaeological value. Since it hasn’t been restored, visitors can see the site exactly as the ancient inhabitants left it after internal wars toppled the moais. There used to be a village here, and you can still see the largest boathouse or hare paenga on the island, which is 43 meters long and called Tore Tahuna. According to tradition, it belonged to the famous Ariki Tu’u Ko Ihu.

Rapa Nui cave tour was incredible! - I have dreamed of visiting Rapa Nui for over 35 years and I am so glad I chose Kava Kava Tours. Their communication was excellent and we were paired with an incredibly knowledgeable, fun and incredible guide, Tokerau! Tokerau is a Rapa Nui native and therefore has first hand knowledge of all aspects of Rapa Nui culture and history. The cave tour was so fascinating and we learned so much. Tokerau knew exactly when to ask for our phones to take the perfect photos for us. If you have the opportunity to tour with Tokerau you will not be disappointed. I would give him ten stars if I could! He is a true professional and a genuinely great person. We will never forget our experience with him. We took the tour in Spanish but he also offers tours in English.

Great Day Caving & Horseback Riding - We actually did the cave tour in the morning and then the horseback tour after, with lunch in between. Our guide Maeve was wonderful! Not only did she skillfully get us through the caves, but then took us to the horseback riding corral and rode with us up to the top of Mt Terevaka. It was a fabulous day and a different type of Easter Island experience, which I highly recommend

Cool caves, a must do while on the island. - Very cool caves. Trees grow inside openings. Not physically challenging, just few tighter spots. Good walking shoes preferred. The tour slso inclides an Ahu where you can get close to fallen moais without any tourists around.

Find Something Better - I would avoid this tour. First, we did not go to all sites. When we told the tour guide, we saw the one, she decided we would not be visiting it again. Second, the distances are SO WRONG. We hiked for 5 miles total. In the sun. In the heat. In the middle of the day. We were told we just needed a little water and travel light. We left behind our bags that had our sunscreen and sun hats and larger quantities of water. The tour guide, Thais, walked so far ahead of us, we could barely see her at times. Ana Kanenga has a very very small entrance. If you have any fear of small spaces, I would not recommend. The tour guide admitted to rarely doing this tour and wasnt sure what it all was. She wanted to give this tour in Spanish when we speak English and gave little to information about the sites. Honestly, there are better options on this island.
