Great tour of Cañon del Sumidero - It was a great tour - We were concerned at the start that this tour would be longer than advertised but we were back on time to San Cristóbal de Las Casas to eat and then head to the airport for our night flight. Felt safe all the time. Of all the tour operators we interacted with - this one was the one with the friendliest driver and the newest (and best-kept) vehicle.

Amazing tour - definitely book! - This was a highlight of our Mexico travels so far. Every part was so convenient in terms of picking us up from the airport and then taking us on to San Cristobal afterwards. The tour itself was amazing. Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. The canyon was stunning and the boat guide knew exactly where to find the crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas etc. Highly recommend this tour!

Una gran experiencia - This was such a great experience. It was only me and an older couple on the tour. Our guide was super knowledgeable and was super kind. My Spanish is passable but at the times I didn’t understand, he translated for me one-on-one. He also taught me how to say phrases in Tzotzil which was super useful for Chiapa de Corzo. I also had an unforgettable meal there. Thanks to his experience and knowledge, I had an amazing time. I even booked two more tours through his company because I had an amazing time. Jalapeño Tours in San Cristóbal de las Casas is the local company. I booked tours to Chamula and Zinacantán and another one to Palenque.

Canyon Boat Ride - As part of our journey we arrived at Tuxtla Gutierrez Airport after leaving Mexico City. We travelled by road to the Sumidero Canyon - on our way to San Cristobal de la Casas. The Sumidero boat ride was recommended as a worthwhile scenic adventure especially after descending from busy, smoggy Mexico City (some 2 kms high in altitude) to the rural-like river Rio Grijalva/El Sumidero (1 km altitude) which passes through the canyon. It was February and it was hot! We boarded one of the many "speed" boats and headed North to the Canon proper - the boats carried about 8-12 persons - everyone had to wear life jackets. The good things were: 1). a "chance" to see crocodiles, monkeys and bird-life in their natural habitat; 2). seeing and travelling through the incredible Canyon walls. The not so good was 1). having a bumpy fast pace boat ride (hold onto your hat) - no good if you are prone to sea sickness (motion sickness). 2). the invariable encounter with souvenir sellers, in boats, that intercepted us at reaching the dam wall (before we turned back to head back to the boat shed). So in all it was well worth it - we saw crocodiles and monkeys and the magnificent scenery.

Nice day in the canyon - We first did two viewpoints of the canyon from above and afterwards we went on the boat through the canyon. Wonderful! Our captain was very knowledgeable about the canyon and the species living there. He let us see monkeys, a crocodile and a iguana. The boat ride ended in Chiapa de Corso where we had about 1h30 of free time which was frankly too long. It wasn't really appealing to have lunch there so we decided to have lunch back in Sant Cristóbal.

100% recommended. - The canyon is amazing and the trip was well organized. The driver picked us up at Tuxla airport and was already there waiting for us when our flight landed and dropped us at our hotel in San Cristobal de las casas. The guided in the canyon stopped at the strategic points to explain and let us take pictures. We even saw crocodiles, monkeys, an iguana and a lot of birds.

Over-sold by Viator - The boat trip was very good. The guides were professional and informative. However, there is no hike nor swimming as indicated in the literature you market. It was way over-sold and for that reason, 3-stars.
