- Burma Bazaar - Leather Market - We will visit a wholesale leather market that attracts traders from around the globe. Established several decades ago, this market has become a key hub for one of India’s major leather manufacturing regions. Shoppers appreciate this market for its authentic leather products.
Flea Market - Moore Market is a flea market that has literally risen from the ashes. The original market, with over 800 stalls selling books, clothes, and plastic goods, was destroyed by fire in 1985. The shops were relocated to the current site, and this flea market has regained its popularity. It’s an excellent spot for purchasing used books, antiques, and even gramophones!
Burma Bazaar - We will visit Burma Bazaar, one of Chennai’s most popular flea markets. Initially set up for refugees from Burma, this bazaar is now known for great bargains on stationery, clothes, DVDs, electronics, software, perfumes, and toys.
Fish Market - After exploring bazaars and flea markets, we will head to a fish market! This is Chennai’s most renowned fish market, supplying all the city’s hotels. Situated next to Chennai Harbour, it’s a fantastic place to buy seer, pomfret, prawn, shark, sardine, crab, silverbellies, carangids, and mackerel.
- VTI Chennai - Traditional Art & Crafts Emporium
Victoria Technical Institute was founded in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee. Today, this institute supports traditional handicrafts by identifying artisans and craftsmen in remote areas, training them, and providing a marketplace for their work. It’s a wonderful place to shop for clothes, toys, wooden furniture and carvings, paintings, bronze sculptures, and sandalwood items.
