Fun family time learning about Sichuan cuisine! - We booked a customised private cooking class including a market tour and learned a lot about Sichuan spices, vegetables, tofu and other interesting ingredients we'd never seen before. Lance patiently answered our many questions during the market tour and helped me select spices and tea varieties to bring home. After the local market tour, we walked to their cooking studio located in a quiet neighborhood with a very local vibe. When we come back to Chengdu we would love to explore this area more. We had tea and some fruit and nuts bought from the market before starting the cooking. When we booked the class we requested a customised menu of 5 Sichuan dishes we wanted to learn and they readily obliged. Chef Lee taught us cutting, prep and cooking techniques, working alongside us and giving feedback when needed. Lance was indispensable as our translator and kindly also took pictures and videos! They let you take videos of the class and we highly recommend doing this to help you recall the tips and techniques they share. We brought our tripod and phone mount but they also had one onsite. This was one of the highlights of our China trip! We now have a deeper appreciation of Sichuan cuisine and we will always remember this wonderful experience!

Cultural Cooking Class at Chilli Cool Chengdu - Highly recommend this cultural cooking class. We started out at a local food market a short walk from the meeting point. Lance was our tour guide and was really knowledgeable about all the different types of food and vegetables. It’s really interesting to see and hear how they utilise the whole of the animal or vegetable / plant. The market was bustling with locals who allowed us to taste some of the produce. We 100% would have never visited this market on our own. After the market we took another short walk to the Chilli Cool kitchen where we had some tea and chatted about Chinese food and culture. Then we went into the kitchen, armed with one of the sharpest knife’s I have ever used and created three delicious dishes. Which I will be trying to replicated on my return home. If you have an interest in cooking, Chinese culture and like meeting new people I highly recommend this class. Thank you to Lance, he spoke excellent English and gave us a great insight into China as a whole, and some tips and tricks for our remaining time there.

Amazing cooking class in Chengdu! - Absolutely recommend this class in Chengdu! We went to a local market where friendly vendors let us sample many local delicacies, before heading to the lovely Chili Cool house. We made some delicious stir fry cabbage, mapo tofu, and twice cooked pork. Jerry is such a fun and friendly host - this will be a highlight of your time in the city!

One of the highlights of China - Jerry is a natural born guide. He has the biggest smile in all of China and you quickly realise that you will have a great day with him as soon as you meet him. Local market visit was eye opening. His explanations were great and it was a pleasure listening to him. Our chef (forgot her name) was great too and taught us some real-deal-serious-useful Chinese cooking secrets! Thank you ❤️

Food and culture enthusiasts - Absolutely fantastic session, great instruction with a mild challenge! Recipes were delicious and authentic. Host/ guide was a local and very knowledgeable, conversational and helpful. Got some great photos and videos, created some memories and made a couple new acquaintances. I went solo but event but its great for a couple or group. 1000% Recommended must do for any foodie or person who wants a taste of local culture. Also had an opportunity to shop like a local and grab a couple things at the market. Tea, beer and for the daring... baijiu served. Two thumbs way up!

Extremely positive experience of Sichuanese cuisine and culture - Extremely positive experience! Punctual and funny. Visit to the local market with information on life, products not only from a culinary point of view but also health according to Chinese medicine. As soon as we arrived at the venue we had a local tea tasting with information about tradition. We made 3 traditional Sichuanese dishes of vegetables, tofu and pork. We had the meal in a convivial setting, with tasting of local beer and an excellent homemade flavored baijiou. Highly recommended!
