Fun Cooking Class for the Whole Family! - Chengdu is known for its spicy food - we wanted to have a chance to learn and cook some dishes for ourselves, and partake in an activity that was hands-on and different from sight-seeing. We traveled as a family of 11 people, ages ranging from 8 to 78, and we all had a fantastic time! Jerry and Lance were great hosts, leading us through the local fresh market where we tasted some spices and fruit, and even picked out two live frogs to try in a spicy stir-fry. Our group split into two, with one group making vegetarian steamed buns from scratch, and another group making mapo tofu and twice-cooked pork. We learned about all the spices and ingredients that go into each dish, and had a fiery experience cooking everything together under Chef Lee's direction. The fun continued as we gathered around a long table to eat our creations, and left with cooking class certificates in hand. It was a very memorable experience and we're so happy that Chilli Cool China created this opportunity for us. Highly recommended! P.S. Now back at home my husband is trying to recreate the mapo tofu dish....wish us luck!

Highly recommend cooking class and tour of local market - This was an excellent tour. A combination of a trip to a local market which was really interesting and then a cooking class where we learnt how to make 3 different dishes. Our guide Lance was really informative and fun. The cooking class was great and we learnt a lot about Sichuan ingredients. The dishes we cooked were delicious. Overall a really great experience, really well run and good fun.

Best ever cookery experience! - If you’re reading this review then first off - book this cookery class: you won’t be disappointed! Now a more lengthy review! Firstly this is more than just a cookery class - it’s a great introduction to Sichuan culture and the local scene in Chengdu. We started with an insightful and entertaining tour of the bustling local market to buy the ingredients for our dishes (not to mention a few purchases to bring back home). Jerry took time to explain the different spices, cuts of meat and vegetables and we left knowing a lot more about ingredients (who’d have known there were at least five different chilli powders - and I’d never come across “13 spice powder”. Then back to the well equipped kitchen for a hands on masterclass where we made 5 dishes, pork dumplings and wonton, spicy salad, sichuan tofu and stir fried pork. We can honestly this was some of the best tasting food we’ve had on our holiday! It was an experience we will not forget - Jerry is an excellent teacher and cook, a charismatic tour guide and a lovely person! Thanks for making out time here so memorable!

Simply the best culinary experience to learn about Sichuan food culture. - We have lived in Chengdu less than a year so we wanted to take this class to learn about the multitude of spices, vegetables and fruits in the markets that we are not familiar with and to learn authentic Chinese cooking styles and dishes. My wife and I are avid cooks and can say with 100% certainty, this is a truly authentic Chinese culinary experience. Lance was our guide - what a kind, genuine soul. He is extremely knowledgeable about not just the market but the ties that the food here has with the culture. After the market, we drank some tea while Lance explained some of the tea habits and culture before heading into their kitchen to meet our chef, Li. Li and Lance taught us how to make 5 traditional Sichuan dishes along with many tips and techniques of Chinese cooking. To say the experience was good value would be an understatement. I cannot recommend it enough.

Great!!! - This activity was exciting thanks to Lance who taught us a lot! He speaks English perfectly, knows his subject very well and is always enthusiastic. I really loved visiting the local market. The courtyard with the chef was great too, and we feasted on the ready meals. I'll do it again! It was definitely the best experience of our stay in China.

Fantastic One-on-One Experience - Truly Unforgettable! - Fantastic One-on-One Experience – Truly Unforgettable! I was lucky to be the only participant in this cooking class, and it was absolutely amazing! Jerry, the guide, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He took plenty of time to walk me through the local market and introduced me to the key ingredients and flavors of Sichuan cuisine. Afterwards, I cooked a delicious meal together with a warm and experienced chef. The one-on-one guidance made the experience especially rich and insightful. I learned a lot and truly enjoyed the relaxed and personal atmosphere. Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced – this class is highly recommended. Many thanks for such a unique and memorable experience!

Delicious, authentic cooking experience! - Me and my wife did the 5 dish cooking class with our English speaking guide Lance, and our chef Lee. What a fantastic experience and a real highlight of our time here in China. The food was excellent, Lances English was fantastic, and was a real fun experience. First we were taken to a local market where Lance showed us all the local produce and answered our many and varied questions. We also picked out some fruit, dumplings and a century egg for eating later on, which we didn't have to pay for, a very nice touch. We then returned to the kitchen to enjoy some loose leaf tea and discussed what we would be making. We made mapo tofu, twice cooked pork, stir fried cabbage, cucumber salad and an aubergine dish. Me and my wife shared a wok station and followed along with what Lee the chef was doing, with translations from our guide Lance. Once we had finished cooking we sat down to a feast even with some bonus dishes thrown in from the chef! Thanks for an unforgettable experience!
