Fun learning Mahjong with tea and snacks - I found this tour on Viator but wasn’t able to book it same day so I emailed the contact info on the Chilli Cool website and Jerry contacted me within an hour at 7 AM! Lance took me and my family to a local market where we saw lots of fresh meat and produce being sold and then to a spice market where he explained the types of spices and some of their culinary and medicinal purposes. We picked up some delicious garlic peanuts and local fruit and then headed to the Chilli Cool office where he made some tea for us to have with our snacks from the market. We then learned to play Mahjong on the really cool automatic self shuffling table and played several rounds until we got the hang of it. Even my hard to please 16 and 18 yo sons had a good time and are interested in trying to beat mom and dad when we get back to the States. Overall a great way to appreciate how the people in Chengdu enjoy a more slow paced life playing Mahjong and drinking tea. Lance was such a great guide and mahjong teacher - patient and kind especially at the end when we had some issues with our payment working on WeChat which took us 15 min to iron out with our bank and escorted us to and from the metro station which was a short walk from the beginning and end of the tour. Highly recommend this tour for something a little different from the traditional ones being offered elsewhere especially for families that might have older kids that would enjoy learning something new.

Really fun tour that made me feel like a local in Chengdu! - Had an amazing day with Jerry in the tour! I was taken in an adventure in Chengdu, eating delicious Sichuan food, playing mahjong with local aunties, and learning so much about this beautiful city. Felt like I was hanging out with an old friend! Highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Sichuan!!

Great experience, definitely recommended! - Great tour for people interested in mahjong! We booked the tour with a transfer, our guide Lance picked us up and we took DiDi to north Chengdu, very quiet, leafy, residential part of the city. Tour started at the local market where we (Lance) bought some snacks to have with tea during the game. From the market we walked to their office where we played mahjong for about 2+ hours. It’s a small room with a real (mechanical) mahjong table and Lance taught us Sichuan version which is btw much much easier then the western or Cantonese or maybe Lance is a very good teacher:). It’s a great way to spend a few hours in Chengdu, not just for mahjong but also to be introduced to the different part of the city, definitely recommended!

So fun! Great option for something different - I had the BEST time!!! My teacher and guide, Lance was more like a good friend than anything else. We first wandered around a local wet market and I learned about different Chengdu spices, vegetables and foods. Passed by numerous mahjong tea shops before getting to ours. After reviewing the rules we played for several hours while snacking on coffee, tea and fresh items purchased in the market. I had soooo much fun!!! Laughed a lot!! Lance and another Chinese friend were friendly, patient and encouraging. Lance’s English was wonderful but he also helped me with my (bad) mandarin. Can’t recommend cool chili and lance any more highly

Discovering Mahjong, but also making friends - Very grateful experience I recommend to anyone coming to Chengdu. You really can see how locals live in those non touristic areas. I felt like home, if the tour guide were my very old friend and we were just playing mahjong while enjoying local te and fruit. I also loved the smoked tofu (tasted like Spanish smoked cheese) so I just took some more to my hotel. Thank you really much for the experience and your kindness! I'll practice more and challenge you guys when I'm back.

LOVED IT!!!!! - Excellent customer service from the start. Tour operator contacted me almost immediately after I booked to clarify my hotel location for pick up. Then, as we were driving to the location, my guide pointed out different sites we were passing that I might want to check out later. We walked through a marketplace on the way to the mahjong houses and my guide pointed out different produce that was in season and different herbs used in Chinese medicine. My guide asked if I smoked and when I said no, he found a house where no one was smoking. He did an excellent job explaining the game to me, showing me how the tiles were organized and the general rules of the game. We played several games with him giving me advice and where we could see each other’s tiles. We then played more games without being able to see each other’s tiles. I am completely hooked on this game now.

So cool this Mahjong course! - What an excellent idea to introduce this typical Chinese game to Chengdu visitors. Before arriving in Chengdu, communication with Ocean from ChilliCoolChina was very clear, fast and smooth. Our plane was delayed, but she managed to postpone our tour for a few hours!! Thanks again Ocean!! We were picked up at our hotel by the lovely Emma, visited a local market & tasted some yummie Chengdu snacks, walked to ChilliCoolChina's teahouse for tea, and started the mahjong course. Emma patiently explained the basic rules and we started playing. Then another staff member joined in and we could play a few rounds with 4 persons. Truly a wonderful experience! Highly recommended

Pleasant Family Time - It seemed like every other activity in Chengdu involved pandas or food, so we tried this out. My mother-in-law is an avid mahjong player, so this was something to share with her grandchildren (12 and 13). The table was a mechanical sort variety and despite being in a building with many smokers was thankfully smoke-free. Our instructor, Ocean, was the nicest, most patient young woman who speaks passable English. We spent a half hour walking through a simulated game and then several hours playing 2 variants of mahjong separated by a decent lunch. My daughter won enough to keep happy but my son would rather read his Kindle.

So much fun! - Winter, a local guide and a very good Mahjong player, gave us a nice introduction to this difficult game. Step-by-step and in a fun way we learned the Chinese symbols (1-10) and the rules of the game. We played a couple of games in a nice warm room (it’s cold in Chengdu in the Winter!) and on a cool professional Mahjong table. We actually know the basics of the game and will for sure play it when we’re home. Winter knows Chengdu very well and helped us with lots of stuff. Like a good place to have diner, buying a nice Mahjong set for home and he also was a translator during cooking class! This class is a fun must do if you got time in Chengdu!

Great half day lesson! - My guide, Ocean, was very knowledgeable and was a great instructor. We visited a local market and she pointed out different spices and things of interest. Afterwards, we went to a local tea house and she taught the game of mahjong. I'd definitely recommend the tour to anyone. Nice relaxing time.
