Located where the Mosna and Wacheksa rivers converge in the Peruvian Andes, the archaeological site of Chavín de Huántar is positioned at a height of 3,177m (10,425ft) above sea level. This was a central hub for major trade paths cutting through the Cordillera Blanca mountains, making it a crucial base for the Chavín civilization. The location is defined by immense temple constructions having a substantial internal and underground area, pyramid-shaped platforms, courts, and depressed squares, the majority of which follow a common alignment.
