Additional Information

The Females and Ferments tour is a unique blend of history and pub crawl, consisting of two pub visits interspersed with historic landmarks. Gia and Capt. Bryan, both local residents, have crafted this experience to shed light on the influential women who made significant political, social and economic strides in this pioneering city. The tour fills the journey with delightful drink options available at our partner public houses. Kick-off the experience by savoring a glass of wine, beer, or cocktail at a wine bar established by three female entrepreneurs, while learning about women who were pillars during the Prohibition era in Charleston. Guests will then traverse the historic district, visiting various sites related to inspiring women who displayed extraordinary courage and fortitude. The tour culminates at the second tavern. Though the tour is structured around women and partially curated by women, it promises a one-of-kind expedition for people from all walks of life. It is the first such offering in Charleston. Note - Participants must be at least 21.

  • While we are inclusive of all guests, Guests with walking difficulties may have difficulty. Walkways in the historic district are often cracked. This tour is 1.5 miles

Interesting history with rare stories - Gia has a lot of knowledge about architecture and general Charleston history so she shared some of that in addition to women’s history. She even helped me find an off the beaten path restaurant!

Fun and Good times - My mom and I booked this during Easter weekend. We were on the tour with a group of four girlfriends and had the best time. Gia was our guide, she was so fun and knowledgeable about everything Charleston. On the tour she really made sure to highlight marginalized and underrepresented women in Charleston history. We started the journey with a wine flight and took some frozen wine to go on the walk- so overall it was wonderful. Highly recommend. Walk is easy and for all levels of ability.

Learn about the REAL movers and shakers in Charleston: THE WOMEN! - Gia is an amazing tour guide. Born and raised in Charleston, she knows the city like the back of her hand. Through the stories of a number of prominent women, she highlights the city's unique history from its early days up until the present. You can also ask her pretty much anything about local and regional history, and she can tell you more! All that, and we had a lovely selection of wine sips along the way! A perfect late afternoon adventure before dinner. We'd give 6 stars if we could!

The absolute best!! - I clicked on this tour because it said wine, but I was definitely intrigued by the women discussed on this journey. Gia was an absolute blast and made this feel like the most intimate group of girlfriends wandering along the road learning about the incredible women who built charleston. Would highly highly recommend, the best city tour I've been on in my travels! Thank you so much Gia!

Wine, French Quarter and HERstories - what more could you want? - A girlfriend and I greatly enjoyed the Women and Wine tour. Gia was our guide and we were already laughing at 2 minutes in. Gia was a wealth of historical knowledge and an accredited guide in Charleston. The HERstories were really interesting too. A highlight for me was seeing the inside of Henry's and hearing about the various 'deeds' that went on there back in the day. Don't miss a chance to learn a bit more about Charleston and some of its little known, game-changing women!

Fun tour with quirky details and a well informed guide - Gia is a wealth of information on all things Charleston, as well as being a fabulous human. I loved that this tour was focused on the women that don’t get talked about, yet still impacted life at their time. She also knows great mixologists, and I had 2 lovely drinks (one custom) at 2 of Charleston’s local haunts. If you’re on the fence, go!
