Highlights

Your visit to Boone Hall Plantation starts with transportation by climate-controlled bus from the Charleston Visitor Center. Your gate fee is included in the price of the tour.

Founded in 1681, Boone Hall was built when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. When you arrive, your tour begins on the front porch with a 30-minute presentation by a knowledgeable guide in historical dress. You will be introduced to the history of Boone Hall and its evolution through a variety of owners since the 17th century.

Learn many facets of the plantation’s history, and listen to a presentation called Slave Street, which provides a look at the living quarters, historical relics, and insight into the life of the slaves here. In addition, learn about Gullah culture, the language of the descendants of slaves who lived in the Lowcountry of Georgia and South Carolina. Boone Hall is the only plantation in the South Carolina Lowcountry to present a live presentation, in season, about this culture.

At the end of your journey, tour the garden to see antique roses that are more than 100 years old. Then head back to the bus for the return drive to Charleston.

Great Tour - Just went on this tour last Thursday. Luckily, we missed the storm here by 1 day. The grounds were a little muddy, so they didn't let us do the farm tour when we arrived. However, there is still so much to see. We had sandwiches at the market/store. Only problem is there is one line for both merchandise and food. Once I ordered food and went back line had doubled, so I didn't buy any souvenirs. We looked at the slave quarters and sat for the Gullah discussion. It was very interesting. Afterwards, we toured the 1st floor of the mansion. I had never visited a plantation before, glad I got to experience one. Drive into and back from the plantation went smooth. We hit a little traffic leaving town around 1 pm.

Memorable tour - We enjoyed the Gullah presentation and learning about their history. The tour guide of the house was entertaining and enthusiastic. The grounds and were nice to explore and there was plenty of time in between activities. Our driver was kind, knowledgeable, and communicative regarding pick up/drop off times.

Lots of time to explore such a beautiful plantation. - Sean was our driver and has such a wonderful personality. He was punctual, friendly, professional, and did what he needed to do to make sure we had enough time to explore the various tours on the plantation.

Amazing tour - The talk on the Gullah culture was so informative and the presenter held everyone's attention. The flowers were beautiful. The food at the Butterfly cafe was delicious. Everyone was so friendly. Only negative thing qas that the house tour was too short..

Boone Hall Plantation a Must! - The plantation home was beautiful. The song and talk of the Gullah speaker was very interesting. There was another speaker who shared the history of slavery on the plantation. We also took a tractor ride around the grounds of the plantation which showed the current crops being grown as well as other things. Delightful trip!

Skip this tour operator and book an Uber instead. - The tour operator canceled our tour approximately 24 hours before our tour due to expected bad weather issues. I called this morning to ask if about rescheduling since the weather forecast had improved, but the customer service rep was a bit rude on the phone, The weather ended up being perfect on 3/23/24 (our original tour date). We bought tickets directly through the Boone Hall website and took an Uber. I’d recommend others do the same.

Not enough time…… - Sadly, this tour is not worth the money. The amount of time that is available once on site is not near enough to see and visit all that there is to see and do. It would have been much better to self drive and take your time. Not recommended.
