Get to Know Crete - Possibly the best way to learn about a culture is to experience the food. Even better if it's away from the larger populations and fancy restaurants. I had an amazing day exploring parts of Crete I would not have otherwise discovered alone -- with much to learn from the amazing guide, Yannis. I was quite fortunate to be solo on this tour with Yannis -- outstanding person, who I now consider a friend. He will also gladly offer to take many photos of you and your surroundings with your phone :) Regarding the food and drink -- you'll love every bite and wish your stomach was bigger!

Exceptional experience, don’t miss it! - We had the most incredible day with Yannis on his gastronomy tour. He is knowledgeable, relaxed, easy to talk to, and an incredible guide. We loved driving the back roads around Chania with him and getting to experience the traditional Tavernas and see the ancient olive oil making process. It was a fantastic day!

Outstanding experience of traditional Crete - My family and I (5 adults) recently went on this experience on August 27th and, I can safely say, it was exceptional. Yannis and his wife were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about Crete, the culture, and the food. You could tell they genuinely loved showing us the beautiful sights and food of the island. They were forthcoming about sharing about their life and what it is like to live there in addition to being curious about your own. They picked the most amazing traditional food places with the best views and all five of us said we had the best time. If you can, book this tour it will really give you a great traditional feel of the island of Crete, from the views, to the food, to its people.

Authentic Cretan food tour with amazing villages and views - Yannis is an incredible host who showed us parts of Crete we would never find on our own. His tour took us to incredible parts of the island where we experienced the best food of our trip, awesome mountain and lake views, history and coffee for an authentic Crete experience. He also showed us the best photo ops! Highly recommend his tour to get a unique perspective of Crete and all of its amazing small towns and villages in the mountains.

Incredible, Authentic Crete with Yannis - Our gastronomy tour with Yannis was the absolute highlight of our trip to Greece! He took our group of six far away from the crowds and into the heart of local Crete—every stop was authentic, peaceful, and totally free of tourists. We started with the best Greek coffee I’ve ever had in a charming village, visited a 500-year-old monastery that was once an olive press, toured a working olive mill with the owner, and enjoyed two incredible meals—one in a tucked-away taverna and another on a hilltop overlooking the ocean and a freshwater lake. All the food was fire-grilled (no electricity!), rich in olive oil, and unbelievably delicious. We even ended the day with fresh sheep milk ice cream. Yannis shared fascinating history throughout, made us feel so welcome, and got us back to our ship with time to spare. He’s warm, knowledgeable, and passionate—truly the perfect tour guide. I’ll never forget this experience!

You'd be crazy not too!! - Me and my partner booked this tour whilst in Chania last month. I feel awful not writing this review sooner but you know how life is! ANYWAY! 10000000% recommend this tour and if we visit Chania again we would certainly rebook. Yannis is a fabulous guide that is very knowledgeable about the island and can certainly give you recommendations and top tips for during your visit. First stop was a lovely café surrounded by trees with a small stream running through it, even with the sound of the cicadas buzzing through the air it was very much a tranquil place to enjoy a traditional Greek coffee. Next up was a stop at a small independent cheese and ice cream shop at the side of the road. You were offered a sample of the cheese that had been made nearby and some Raki (of course). You then had many different flavours of homemade ice cream to try. After this we travelled through the beautiful hills of Chania to the old monastery. I’m not a religious person but this place definitely hit different. Surrounded by a beautiful garden that grew all different types of food, it was very much a peaceful place to visit and you could see where they used to make Olive Oil 100s of years ago. Next was the Oil Factory where Yannis showed us the method of cold press which is a traditional method. We then got to sample some of this oil with some bread that the owners mother had made fresh which was a nice touch. After this we visited 2 separate restaurants, both in beautiful locations. I would strongly recommend that you don’t eat anything before this tour as you will be full to bursting by the end of it! We had several authentic dishes including the best Moussaka I have ever had the pleasure of eating alongside some tasty wines up in the mountain overlooking a lake. Absolutely fabulous and 10/10 experience.

Unforgettable Taste of Crete with the Best Guide - From the moment we stepped into Yannis’s car in Chania, we knew we were in for something special. Over the course of about six delicious hours, we feasted on at least a dozen iconic Cretan dishes—each one more incredible than the last. Picture fluffy tsigariasto lamb, creamy graviera cheese, velvety sheep‑milk ice cream (including unforgettable carob flavor), savory smoked pork, zucchini‑flower fritters, and incredible coffee (truly the best I’ve ever had). The abundance and variety were mind‑blowing and beautifully showcased Crete’s full culinary palette. And I have to say—I’m not usually a big fan of lamb, but the lamb at the restaurant Yannis took us to was absolutely delightful. I genuinely loved it, which says a lot! More than just the food, it was Yannis himself who made the day shine. He is passionately knowledgeable—every olive-mill stop, mountain village, and tucked-away tavern came alive with his stories of local traditions, winemaking and raki, and life on the island. He was warm, attentive, and incredibly accommodating, always checking on dietary needs, guiding us gently through scenic village walks, and making us feel completely at home—even as we enjoyed two separate, stunning lunches: one overlooking majestic mountains, the other near beautiful Lake Kournas. The wine and raki tastings were an education in themselves—each sip paired perfectly with plates of olives, sweet pastries, and Greek coffee brewed in the traditional sand style. Yannis didn’t just serve us food and drink—he shared the rituals and stories behind them. All in all: • Culinary explosion – A dazzling array of authentic Cretan food, from lamb and herbs to sweets and more. • Expert guide – Yannis’s warmth, insight, and flexibility elevated every stop. • Immersive culture – Backstage visits to olive presses, mountain homes, monastery gardens… real life in real villages. • Scenic delight – Stunning mountain and lake views perfectly framed our feasts. If you want to taste the heart of Crete in one unforgettable outing—with a guide who is equal parts expert, storyteller, and foodie companion—book Yannis’s tour now. It was hands-down the highlight of our trip.

Yiannis was very nice and... - Yiannis was very nice and accommodating. The company on our small group tour were great. The scenery and stops were informative and lovely. There was just too much food! We had lunch at a small taverna. An hour later we had dinner at another taverna. Both were excellent though. A thoroughly enjoyable experience!
