Reviewed at 2019-07-18: Great tour - We booked this tour by viator because all the excursions of Tui were too expensive. This tour was great, we got picked up by our hotel, right on time. It was a long drive from Playa del Carmen but it was totally worth it. The temples in Muyil were really beautiful and it was great that there were no other people except for our group. Once arrived in Bacalar, we had a short time to see the fort from the outside, but we couldn’t go in there. Afterwards we went to the lagoon. Sadly it was a rainy day, but the lagoon was still very pretty. The tour overview is exactly what you will do and see. Just the cenotes are open spots in the lagoon, not like the caves. The lunch, in a traditional Mexican restaurant, was the best food we had during our time in Mexico. Paulina is the nicest guide we have ever had. She told a lot about everything and was very kind. Nice to go in a small group. Really recommend this tour.
The Enchanting Waters of Bacalar Lagoon
After immersing yourself in the history of Chacchoben, it’s time to cool off in the crystalline waters of Bacalar Lagoon, famously known as the Lagoon of the Seven Colors. The Bacalar Eco-Tour offers a full-day adventure starting at 7:00 AM, perfect for those eager to explore the lagoon’s vibrant hues. As you glide across the water, the sun dances on the surface, revealing shades of blue that seem almost otherworldly. The lagoon’s beauty is matched only by its rich history, as you sail past the Pirate Channel and Birds Island, where tales of swashbuckling adventures come to life.
The tour includes a visit to the historic Fort San Filipe de Bacalar, where you can imagine the fort’s cannons defending against pirate invasions. After a delicious local lunch, the journey continues with a boat ride to explore the lagoon’s cenotes, each with its unique charm. From the deep blue of Cenote Esmeralda to the mysterious depths of Cenote Bruja, these natural wonders are a testament to the region’s geological diversity.
