Crossing Borders and Time

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve spent countless days chasing the perfect wave along the sun-drenched coasts of Central America. But this time, I traded my surfboard for hiking boots and embarked on a journey to the heart of the jungle, to the ancient city of Tikal. My wife and I, always eager for a new adventure, decided to explore the Mayan ruins from the Belize border, a trip that promised both history and nature in abundance.

Our day began in San Ignacio, Belize, where we were picked up by Abner, our driver for the day. The drive to the Guatemala border was filled with anticipation, the lush landscape rolling by as we chatted about our shared love for the natural world. Crossing the border was seamless, and on the Guatemalan side, we met Omar, our guide for the day. His enthusiasm for the Mayan culture was infectious, and as we drove towards Tikal, he regaled us with tales of the ancient civilization that once thrived in these lands.

Immersed in the Jungle

Arriving at Tikal National Park felt like stepping back in time. The air was thick with the scent of the jungle, and the sounds of wildlife echoed around us. We stopped frequently to observe the diverse birdlife, each sighting a reminder of the rich biodiversity of Central America.
