The Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, inaugurated on August 30, 1993, during the reign of King Hassan II, is one of Morocco’s most renowned landmarks. Designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, the mosque is partially built over the Atlantic Ocean, symbolizing a verse from the Qur’an about God’s throne being over water. Its impressive minaret reaches approximately 210 meters, making it one of the tallest in the world.
The complex covers around 9-10 hectares and can host up to 105,000 worshippers — about 25,000 inside the prayer hall and another 80,000 outside. Its architecture combines traditional Moroccan elements — zellige tilework, carved wood, marble, stucco, intricate arabesques — with modern features like a retractable roof and a powerful laser from the minaret pointing toward Mecca.
Beyond being a place of worship, the mosque is also a cultural complex: it includes a madrasa, a museum, a library, hammams, and is a spiritual tourist attraction in Casablanca. -
The Corniche - Enjoy a pleasant and safe walk along the Corniche.
The Corniche stretches along the Atlantic Ocean on the city’s western edge. It’s one of Casablanca’s most popular spots for both locals and visitors to relax, walk, and enjoy ocean views — especially at sunset.
A stunning coastal walkway lined with palm trees, cafes, restaurants, and beach clubs.
It extends from the Hassan II Mosque area toward Ain Diab Beach, offering panoramic ocean views throughout.
The walkway is well-maintained, with areas to sit, jog, cycle, or simply enjoy the sea breeze.
☕ What to Do There
