Additional Information

Colombian Caribbean houses the marvels of nature – Totumo volcano and the pink sea. The pink sea, located in Galerazamba village of the department Bolívar, forms an integral part of the Santa Catalina municipality. With an impressive history, the salt flats of this region captivate everyone’s attention since they are the source of the vibrantly colored pink sea. The unique pink coloration of the sea, which is a natural spectacle, varies with the season, peaking between December and April. As of now, due to the public health situation, the spot is closed for visitation, thus our trip leads to Galerazamba where we will explore:

  • The enchanting Catalina India
  • The captivating Ethno-industrial Museum
  • A vantage point to witness the amazing phenomenon of the pink sea

In addition, you can immerse yourself in a combined experience of relaxation and enjoyment at Totumo volcano!

Great half day excursion - Had a great time with the museum tour and learned about salt production. We went to the pink lake, but wasn’t as pink as I thought. Highlight was the mud volcano. Amazing time and met 2 new friends. I recommend them

Totumo volcano and Galerazamba (very good) - Everything is excellent, they give you a mini tour through a mini museum in Galerazamba, then they show you and tell you the history of the Indian Catalina, after that they take you to see the salt flats, a very beautiful place where you can walk on top of the salt and that's it. Lastly they take you to the Totumo volcano. The bad thing (not about the tour but about the place): the place is a fairly precarious town, the locals can be a little annoying offering you services.

Eccentric experience - The experience of accessing a volcano was quite unprecedented, but the pressure for bribes on site (you have to pay extra for anything: photo, massage, bath and others) takes away from the shine of the place.

Too long for so little - The volcano part of the tour was nice. I would’ve given the tour more stars if it were just the volcano. The museum is a hole in the wall and pointless part of the tour and the pink sea wasn’t pink yet. Tour could be less time and straight to the point

Good Experience, Not So Good Tour Operator - The experience was good, but the tour company wasn't the best. For starters, they arrive 50 minutes late. Secondly, the van was pretty hot. Thirdly, the van didn't have seatbelts. Fourthly, the tour operator lady didnt explain much, she could have been a bit more informative. Also, she never greeted us and she never introduced herself. The entire time, we were unsure what was happening. Fifth, its completely pointless to go to the lake, especially because they were aware the lake wasnt going to be pink, well before picking us up. They should remove the pink lake from the advertisement, until they are sure it's going to be pink. I see where all the other reviews mention the lake not being pink, so why continue to take us there? Driver did fix flat

Do not bother using this company but please go and do the mud - The guide did not like her job. She was eating snacks and on her phone most of the time. She didn’t bother to show us the pink lake. She didn’t even say bye. The mud volcano is a lot of fun but you gotta be strong because they’re very aggressive with the tipping.

Not worth it - The guide was not friendly. Didn’t introduce herself, barely said hello. She texted us that they were very close to the hotel but it was still another 20 min wait outside and then someone showed up not meeting the description of who was picking us up. Went to a crappy little museums out salt and then “pink beach” which nobody in their right mind could ever describe as pink. The volcano mud bath was fun! Felt really cool and relaxing. Dropped some people off for lunch and back to the area of our hotel 7 hours later. Driver wouldn't take us all the way back to the hotel, he dropped us off about 6 blocks away. Maybe he didn’t want to deal with the traffic? We didn’t care. It was 5+ hours of driving for the 45 min volcano experience. I would not recommend this tour.

Interesting visit let down by poor transportation - Booked the trip, good communication and pick up on time. However the minibus was worn and could not comfortably take the required passengers. Even small children would have struggled to fit in some of the seats and many of us were 6 foot. The van tyres were threadbare, definitely not street legal. The air con did not work without extreme screeching. The driver stopped to get a candle to wax the belt but that only lasted ten minutes. No air con with 12 people in a small van for 3 hours of driving. We were forced to use the middle seat next to the driver but it had no seat belt. Staff were friendly and the volcano was interesting and fun.

DO NOT BOOK THEY WILL ROB YOU - They stole our money! Upon arrival we were told that our things would be kept in lockers under supervision. When we came back from the activities and changed, everyone on tour checked their bags and allll of our Colombian pesos were gone. We asked our tour guides what had happened and they acted dumb. They demanded tips for the services and stayed silent about the situation at hand. The pesos that they had stolen would’ve been used as tips, but since it was gone no one received anything. Our tour guides were Diana & Yuliana. At some point the tour guides and the workers started to fight over the situation. My guess is that they are all in on it. We refused to get on the bus until law enforcement arrived. DO NOT BOOK. See pictures attached.
