Additional Information

This tour is a must-book for travelers as it provides a unique opportunity to explore two distinctively therapeutic wonders of the Colombian Caribbean. Firstly, you’ll visit the renowned Totumo Volcano, famous both nationally and internationally for its mud baths. Known for their health benefits, the mud’s components include salts and minerals that are believed to induce relaxation, exfoliate the skin and, according to numerous regular visitors, improve overall health and remedy various conditions. Secondly, experience the captivating Pink Sea with its remarkable history and dominating salt flats that give the waters their vivid pink pigmentation. This natural phenomenon’s pink hue varies with the seasons, peaking between December and April. Currently, due to the health crisis, we’ll instead head to Galerazamba where we’ll visit:

  • Catalina India
  • The Ethno-industrial Museum
  • A viewpoint where you can glimpse the pink sea
Location
Monumento Torre del Reloj
in the middle arc of the clock tower will be the tour guide wearing a green cap and a green vest

Mud Bath Experience - Be ready to walk up a lot of stairs, but once you reach the top the view is amazing. The mud bath was definitely a different experience they massage you as well. A must try!

An experience - The pink sea isn’t pink but I did enjoy learning about the salt process in the museum. The mud volcano was a 10 out of 10. So freaking cool. The lunch was at a nice restaurant and very good, but you only had the choice of either water or lemonade with no refills.

Excellent experience - The view was very nice. We did not get to see the pink sea as it had rained. We had fun and a great massage. Lunch was good. I would do it again except for the amount of individuals you have to tip.

Nice experience - Was fun and the guide was great. Was pretty crowded in a hot van and it turns out it is the wrong time of year for the lake to be pink, which was disappointing.

Cartagena at a glance - It was a good time: however the pink sea was very limited. It must be noted that tour company should advise tourist of “ top” traps. It was a a little uneasy when you do not know who you owe tip to, especially at the Mud Volcano. Otherwise enjoyable

Poor tour operator, never showed up. - Tour operator arranged to pick us up at the hotel but after an hour had not arrived. Never showed up and was not contactable. As a note for the volcano - Ended up hiring a car and going to the mud volcano ourselves. Be warned, the people there are VERY aggressive for money even if you didn't ask them to do anything. Many people, even those who didn't do anything demanded $20.000 COP each.

Yuk! Scam!! - 1. Our ticket included hotel pickup, but we ended up paying $80 roundtrip for a taxi to take ourselves to the pickup point. (We weren't notified of the fact we weren't being picked up until after my credit card was charged for the trip.) 2. After we were picked up from the central meeting point, We drove around for 2 more hours picking everyone else up from their hotels. 3. Our ticket included lunch, our guide asked if we preferred chicken or fish and lunch was NEVER provided. We didn't eat breakfast nor lunch and No Information was ever provided about why we hadn't eaten during the tour. 4. According to our guide, The pink sea is only pink in April. Don't waste your time and go there any other time unless you want to see a salt refinery and the same exact ocean that is in Cartagena. 5. The mud volcano was unique, but there were some suspicious activities that took place in and around the landmark. The employees on top of the volcano strip you of your shoes and your phones. PS: (You will not have access to your phones until after the entire experience when the man who collects the phones at the top of the volcano comes down the volcano and returns everyone's phones to them, FOR A TIP!) When you enter the mud, the "masseuse's" attempt to force massages onto you, they grope men and women without consent, and if you decline they still attempt to rub your body until you make it clear that you have declined. It was almost as if they didn't understand the word "No". Additionally, other tourists that are in the bath before you, take their leisurely time massaging each other, sitting in corners and taking up space. Once you exit the bath, you walk down the gravel path without shoes to a small lake where a lady will be waiting to offer you a "full body rinse", where womens tops are attempted to be taken off and their private parts are carresed consensual or not. The locals and the tour guide force you to tip them for services that you declined. We witnessed people on our tour being surrounded and harrased about the tips for the services they didn't offer. IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MUD VOLCANO, CHOOSE A DIFFERENT COMPANY!

SCAM DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR SCAM - DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR. the pink sea is just a brown lake. I didn’t expect it to be bright pink but it was muddy brown water. Biggest waste of time. There is no story telling about the cutler etc. We got 3 sentences in english from the whole trip when we expected to be informed of the places we were going. VOLCANO YOU NEED MORE CASH: They do not tell you that when you get to the volcano 5-8 locals will touch you (even when you ask them to stop they don’t) to massage you or wash you. And these people demand money from you. The tour claims it’s optional but they corner you and yell in your face until you pay. None of us had small change and they expect us to pay another $12USD per person who touched us/ helped us when we didn’t ask for it. I don’t mind paying locals for their service but we were not told we needed cash to pay these people and it was very uncomfortable the way the cornered us and wouldn’t let us leave the building. The bus was also an hour + late to picking us up. Once we got our food I called an Uber bc I was not going to waste one more second on this your.

If u can go just to the mud volcano, then yes, it's an interesting expwrience - Meh, the only somewhat interesting thing was the mud bath. In the mud bath, you are massaged, and they name themselves. After you are walked to the water and washed, again they name themselves, then you should tip each and every. It is very confusing.

Just horrible - Worst tour EVER!!! They picked us up in a vehicle with no air. They hey tried to stuff to many people in the van. We complained and the tour guide said she just worked there and there’s nothing she could do. The van had completely bald tires in addition to no air. We arrived at the tour, the guy who worked there tried to steal my watch, he said he had put it in my bag, the guide called someone and they returned my watch. As we were leaving the mud volcano, we had a flat, the driver was unsure of how to change the tire so some of the men on the tour had to help. We tried to schedule a transportation company to come pick us up because we were so uncomfortable on the ride there, but the guide did not follow the tour schedule (places they said we would visit) so we couldn’t coordinate our pickup. They said we had 3 stops spending 2 hours per location, we did not!!! We spent 15 min at the pink sea, if that’s what you call it then went to lunch. At lunch they served half of a fish some people received head some received the fin portion. At to make it even worse, they provided a van for drop off with air for a 10 min drive. This tour company is just horrible!!!
