The Best Private Tour in Cartagena - Angel is an amazing person who is truly following his calling working with people. We initially did the Bazurta Market Tour and Cooking class. We were so impressed and felt like we knew him for years we hired him to do the private tour the following day. He had us laughing so much. The beauty of the private tour is that he is flexible and will take you places you want to go. We wanted to go shopping at a particular store and he took us and shopped with us. Just awesome. Another thing we felt like the healthcare provider our hotel recommended for the COVID test was charging too much. I called up Angel and you know it, he sent over someone to the hotel who was way cheaper. There was no cost for his service. We really fell in love with Angel and his wife Maria.

Informative City Tour for adults - Overall it was a very informative city tour led by Angel. It is clear to see his pride for the culture, Angel tried very hard to share with us his knowledge and keep the group engaged. My group had a few teens, it was more challenging to keep them interested. He was flexible to allow us more free time in the Navy Museum, where kids were more interested (may be because of the free wifi :-) )and wanted to explore on their own. I can tell he was disappointed not able to show us more of the old city as a result of our extra long stay at the Navy museum, but I appreciated his flexibility, and his willingness to make adjustment based on customers' needs. If I was to go back next time (especially if going back without kids), I think I would love to try one of their cooking class tours. Overall I would highly recommend the tour, the only consideration may be avoid doing longer culture focused tour with younger kids.

city tour - Tour guide English was mostly ok. There were 3 cruise ships in port that day. I thought I had booked a van not a large bus. My mistake. Tour started a little late because we had to wait for passengers from all the ships. There were several buses for this tour. Drove around the city to see highlights. Made stop at shops for about 45 minutes. Stopped at Saint Felipe's Fort with many vendors. Was not able to go inside. To far away and no time. Quick visit at church. Stopped at emerald business for a tour. I did expect more. Norwegian offered about the same tour for a little less. The driver did do a great job in a very busy city with narrow streets. The best part of the day was before the tour. There are several different birds and mammals to see for free at the port. Many are not caged. Great for close up photos.

We purchased this tour because our... -
We purchased this tour because our cruise ship did not offer the opportunity to go up the highest point in Cartagena which was La Popa Monastery. Our guide, Willis, blurted out a list of things we were going to do, so we accepted and trusted him. He took us to the fort, but we were not allowed to walk up the trail. The stop after that was shop 4 where he dropped us off and we spent about 40 minutes walking around in these shops. I spoke to Willis on the side, telling him that I was not interested in shopping. I asked him to stay close to the itinerary. We were a party of seven people who were more interested in exploring the city as none of us had ever been there. Willis took us to the Gold Museum, then we were given a tour of the Emerald mine which was really a jewelry store. I was getting quite upset at this time. Then he took us to another museum that was not on our list, and we saw a dance and was expected to tip the dancers. We walked along the old city, and when it was past noon, I asked him when were we going to La Popa? He said La Popa was not on the itinerary. He got mad at me and said I could talk to his boss if I wanted. I asked him what would it take for him to take us to the highest point? He said he would not take us there because that was not part of the plan. I said it was. He said, Why didn't I say something when he listed all the places we were going to go? I said, because we trusted you. He said La Popa was closed off to the public due to erosion. None of us were informed of this. When we talked to the local workers, they confirmed that the roads were eroded. They said that tour buses parked a the bottom and had people walk to the top of the monastery. We were not informed or given that choice. Had we known this, we would have booked through our cruise line. We felt that we were not informed. In addition to that, Willis was more concerned at trying to get us to buy stuff took us places we did not want and exchanged La Popa for some museum without telling us the truth. This was not a good tour and we were sorry we booked this.
