majestic moments with some room to improve - We did the tour that included playa blanca, the aviary and plankton, but not all members of our travel group chose all three of those options. The tour was a bus ride into Baru. The aviary was the first stop. Only us and one other family left the bus for this part of the tour. Everyone else went to the beach. The aviary was wonderful. We went during the end of dry season, which I believe is why so few people were there. Our guide, Sergio, took us through the aviary, giving us lots of information about the exhibits and plenty of time to take pictures and interact with the birds. After about an hour and a half at the aviary, our bus took us to the beach club in playa blanca and we joined up with the rest of our group. We then ate our lunch and had a few hours to hang out and enjoy the water. At the end of the day, the group headed home and we stayed at the beach club and joined a different group to experience the plankton bioluminescence. Sergio was very helpful making sure we found and met our new guide, Mike. After the sun set, we all packed into a boat in the dark and sailed off to the area of the water where we could see the plankton. At that point, the anchor went down and we all dove into the water. Pretty amazing experience to see everything light up in the darkness! After maybe 20 minutes in the water, we headed back, changed clothes and then took the bus back into Cartagena. It was 11 hours in total. Reasons for not giving a 5 star review: 1. The beach club was not perfect. It was in a very loud area. Another tour we went on the next day had a club that was much quieter and we felt that was more enjoyable. 2. Everyone has heard about the amount of vendors that hassle you in this area. The beach club told us that they only allowed in a few select vendors, but even they were extremely pushy and would attempt to sell you souvenirs for wildly inflated prices 3. The 11 hour tour only included 1 lunch and 1 snack. The lunch after the aviary was around 2 pm and the club stopped serving food around 4:30-5, so there were not a lot of options to eat dinner. We both got very hungry towards the end 4. Because we had to wait until it was dark, there was just a whole lot of sitting and waiting at the beach club. About 4-5 hours there when we would have been happy being there for about 2. It was still worth it for the plankton experience, but it would be nice to have fit in one more activity - possibly a dinner or something - to break up the monotony ps - this isn't the tour's fault, but I would not suggest eating the oysters from the vendors. Pretty sure that is what caused us to feel terribly sick for days after this tour
