- Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations - Caherconnell Stone Fort, situated 1km south of Poulnabrone dolmen in the heart of the Burren Ireland, offers you the opportunity to visit an exceptionally well - preserved example of the stone forts or stone ringforts which are to be found in the Burren Ireland. The fort is in its original state. Its position, overlooking virtually all-surrounding areas suggests a defensive settlement. Archaeological excavations take place each summer in association with ‘CAFS’ - Caherconnell Archaeological Field School- an International Field School accredited by NUI, Galway. As well as a trip to the Fort, visitors can also take in the Burren’s Premier Sheepdog Demonstrations at Caherconnell, enjoying the combined skills of the farmer and the border collie as they work in the natural habitat of the Burren. A must do! - This was one of the highlights of our trip so far! 3 adults visiting from Australia - our tour of the fort with Patrick was extremely informative and very interesting, not only about the local area, but also Ireland in general. Followed by the sheepdog display was such fun, and also really interesting! Would definitely recommend for young and old, thank you, Catherconnell!

Entertaining and informative - We loved watching the sheepdogs work the sheep and learning about the ring fort. James, our ‘story teller’ did a masterful job of bringing the history of the fort alive. Definitely worth a visit.

Signed up for sheepdog demo, gift shop and café on site. Recommended to sign up for tour of stone fort as well. - This demonstration was so much fun! These two gentlemen in charge of the four sheep dogs were true professionals and masters of their craft. It was amazing what they can do by just using sound cues and whistles. Also, a ton of history provided and why things are done regarding the practice of sheepdog training. This is a great experience, especially for families, and you get to meet and pet the dogs after the demonstration! If you get a chance, definitely visit Caherconnell Stone Fort and Sheepdog demos, it is absolutely worth it.

Many times ‘brilliant’ was used to describe our Ireland trip -this was the brightest light! - “Brilliant” was used at each turn of our Ireland trip - AND this was the brightest light of brilliance!
The CaherConnell shepherding experience was wonderful. It started from our arrival and greeting from Sean. My wife was ‘dying’ to pet a lamb but before we departed, we realized that we were past ‘lambing season’, which Sean explained clearly when we arrived.
Our guide was Aaron, who experience and command of his dogs did not reflect his relatively young age. A modern day shepherd, the dogs knew who was boss — most of the time — and that was also part of the fun. After demonstrating how the dogs answered his various commands and whistles, we asked to have the audience decide how many sheep we wanted separated from the flock. And Jill, Jessie, Lane, and Rose showed how smart and obedient they are.
But the real brilliant moment was when Aaron came up to me and said: “I understand you need to pet a lamb” and he carried 50 pounds of wool-covered wonder to us. My wife had to sit; she is slight… but she got her wish.
The cafe is exactly what a family or couple would need for a quick lunch. Rest rooms and the obligatory gift shop was there, featuring their logo-ed merch… very cute.
The question is not be IF we come back, but when. A big thank you to Sean, Aaron and the rest of the team.

Brilliant!!!! - Pat gave a great in depth tour, with lots of Irish humor sprinkled in, of the fort and answered questions from our small group very well. The sheepdog demo by John and James was fascinating and the true stars the dogs stole the show!!! The quaint and clean cafe inside the gift area was a great place to grab some coffee and hot chocolate before we got back on the road as well. 11 out of 10 experience at Caherconnell!
