Very cheap. - Pensioners get discount, frequent, quick and comfortable. Still a lot of steps and walking if you want to go to the end of the road so it is a good idea to use the funicular for this very steep section.

Quick ride up - Funicular was quick ride to the top versus walking up, queues were also quick, sanitized for Ned group max 10. Lovely experience likely to do it again

Does the job and gets you there no sweat - Still quite a few steps to climb to get to the lighthouse so why not take the funicular. Return ticket only marginally more than single. Shame the mist rolled in when we got there but difficult to plan for when taking a day trip from cape town

Intentions were for the ride, but due to load shedding, that didn't happen - It was a great experience to finally visit. However, I could not be able to experience the ride for my return ticket due to load shedding and could not wait for electricity to come back as it was a very long drive to get there but I will definitely visit again some time.

Funicular to go up to the lighthouse - To reach the old lighthouse there is an uphill road of about 600m, but there is also a funicular, which we took (Flying Dutchman Funicular: adults return 90 rand, children over 6 years 50 rand). It starts from a point next to the restaurant and goes up to the souvenir kiosk near the old 1860 lighthouse, later replaced by a new one built at Dias Point in 1919, because it was often obscured by fog. At the top of the lighthouse the view of the Cape peninsula is magnificent, the usual photographic shots are a must, at the foot of the lighthouse and with the famous pole with the signs of the kilometers away from the main metropolises of the planet attached. From the foot of the lighthouse you can enjoy a splendid 360° view of the surroundings. Near the departure of the Funicular there is a large panoramic restaurant, the Two Oceans Restaurant.

It serves the purpose. - Service at the ticket office could be better but the price is ok at R75 or c £5 return. It runs c every 5 minutes and does save you a sharp uphill walk - simple as that. The views at the top do give you a different and probably better perspective of some of the truly spectacular views than the ones you get at 'base camp' - the car park and shops. In particular you get wonderful views of the absolutely mesmerising Dias beach and over to Cape of Good Hope. It can be very windy up here. In summary it is well worth doing simply to get the views at the top. As an attraction in itself it is not surprisingly functional but it does the job.
