A hidden gem - We kind of fell into this tour because we hadn't booked anything and this had an opening. We looked at a lot of other food tours that were either not available that day or were sold out. In fact we had almost given up. Then on the last search - this popped up. Just our luck!! IT WAS FABULOUS!!!!! I have been on MANY food tours - in many different countries and if this isn't the best, it's definitely in the top five I've been on. The guide kept in good contact with us before the tour and were at the appointed start on time, ready to go. Included in the tour is a bit of history, a bit of architecture, a bit of the geographies of people/food/culture movement in the city and in South Africa. There were 5 stops with food and/or beverages plus a "walk through" of a very interesting food mall for locals and a flower market. One stop was for a tea & coffee sampling, one was for "chili bites" - the other three had several different foods to sample. There was only one thing I didn't care for (chili bites) but all of the other stops were delicious and the people were happy to have us there. The guides were very intelligent and knowledgable about the food scene in Cape Town and in general - from hole-in-the-wall street food to the finest restaurants in the city. I only wish we would have taken this tour earlier because they gave some excellent tips and recommendations on things to see & do - but we were on our last day in the city. This is one tour that I would HIGHLY recommend. Living in New Orleans I am a bit of a food snob because I'm surrounded by great foods. I don't often give a "top" rating but if I could give this one a 10, I would.

History, politics & delicious food - So much more than a food tour! A great way to get to know the center of Cape Town and its history. From slavery to apartheid to current issues of gentrification, the guides told complicated histories of CT via delicious food.

Highly recommend! - We had such a great time on this tour (family of 4 with young adult kids). Loved the food selection. Guide was super - friendly and informative. As much of a cultural orientation to Cape Town as food information/tasting. Perfect way to start our trip.

Book It! - We had heard about this tour through another tour guide actually! We reached out to Dennis to get scheduled, of which he was very flexible with our limited time in Cape Town. We were shown around the city by Twanda, and he took us to some amazing food spots, places that we probably wouldn’t have checked out. The amount of food itself was a lot, but the flavors too? Phenomenal. Twanda brought us to some historical sites and talked about Cape Towns origins and how that influences the food we were tasting. We found this very insightful. He also brought us to this independent book seller, who spoke to us about his passion to educate the people through reading. We ended the tour with a coffee and tea tasting at a church, a perfect way to end really. Overall we had such an awesome experience and we would highly recommend anyone visiting Cape Town to get this on their itinerary!

Fun, delicious tour with a charming host! - We had a delicious and informative tour with Fez. We visited hole-in-the-wall restaurants with delicious foods that we would never find on our own(one didn’t even have a name!). We learned about many cuisines around the continent as well as the history the people who brought their food to Africa from their homelands.

The most educational and rewarding food tour you'll ever go on - Tawanda was such a great host for this experience! I loved all of our stops and the food we tasted, but I also greatly appreciated the historical and cultural contextualization as we walked around Cape Town together so that I could learn more about this special part of the world. Definitely a highlight during my visit and something you should not miss while in town. Very enjoyable, enlightening, and intellectually stimulating conversation in parts of the city I would not have gotten to explore without local guidance.

Amazing Experience! 🍴🇿🇦 - The African Food and Storytelling Tour in Cape Town was a highlight of our trip! The food was delicious and diverse, and the stories shared gave real depth to the culture and history behind each dish. Our guide was warm, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience feel personal and engaging. In addition to the tour, we also did the Cape Malay cookery course and had a lot of fun with Shihaam and her friend. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to connect with Cape Town on a deeper level!

Delicious food, Cape Town culture and so much more! - It was a wonderful experience for the food, the history and learning about the various cultures within Cape Town, and how they keep their food traditions alive. Dennis is a wonderful storyteller. He weaves questions to his listeners as a means to engage everyone and bring Cape Town’s history to life. We loved hearing about the different flavours found in the various foods and the different flavour notes in the teas and coffee. We were especially captivated by our Barista sharing with us his personal story. So much more than a food tour and well worth it. We would certainly recommend it. We also enjoyed hearing from the young person assisting Dennis. We are so sorry we missed the names of others who made it a memorable afternoon.
