Smooth ride, great views, and a really good time. - We had some relatives visiting and the train ride was perfect for them. We booked tickets the night before and weren't really sure which coach to sit in. We went with the seats with a table. The seating was great, but the inside person doesn't get a great view. Next time, I think we would get the less expensive seats where they face each other (no table), and spend time (weather permitting) in the open cars at least 1 direction. If you have multiple parties, you can tie reservations together. And don't worry about saving or printing the email with the confirmation & reservation #....they only need the reserver's ID to find your reservation. The train was very smooth, the staff was awesome, views were amazing, and everyone had a great time.

A Must Ride & Dine - My husband and I had an amazing time on this train ride! I had always wanted to eat on a train ride and was able to do this with him! We purchased the afternoon (3:30pm)ride in the Deluxe Car and would highly recommend it. The staff was most gracious, helpful and informative, especially Sandra our waitress and Bob. We ordered Chicken Nachos to share as an associate from the train depo suggested and we were not disappointed. Definitely worth the time and money!

10/10 - Amazing views, good food, great staff. I loved how you could take your drinks out to the open air car and just look at everything, there was so much to see and the staff member on the open air car told me all kinds of great stuff about the gorge.

Best time ever! - OH MY GOODNESS!! This train ride is amazing, everyone from tickets to boarding to my server wher just so kind. We felt really taken care of the entire time, the drinks are awesome, I loved the Rail Baron Margarita, it went amazingly with my chicken panini! The train also has so much interesting history that was an added bonus. Oh and dont even get me started on the views, they are unmatched, I truly have never seen anything like it in my life! Thank you Royal Gorge Route for giving my family the best experience!

Something to Try especially during the holidays - We rented a cabin in Fairplay, Colorado last Christmas, while visiting our son, who currently resides in Denver. We wanted to create a unique and special experience during our stay. A friend recommended to try the Royal Gorge Train ride, so we did! It was a great experience that we truly enjoyed. The scenic ride through the Rocky Mountains offered beautiful views, and it was wonderful to spend quality time with family. For those who have not yet had the opportunity, I highly recommend it, especially for families with young children. During our visit, Santa made an appearance at our table, and his elves were very friendly and engaging with everyone. Our family loved the entire experience!

Unique experience but overpriced at ever turn and every item. - While it was a unique experience, it was overrated and overpriced for what you received. I would have like some type of narrative or story telling, and communication with guests. Also, I should not have anything block my view when I paid for a vista dome, especially in the upper part of the window. Good was ok, but it too was overpriced and didnt have enough wait staff. Glad I experienced it, but wouldn’t do it again.

Not Worth the Hype – Disappointing All Around - I was genuinely excited to experience the Royal Gorge Train in Cañon City, but it quickly became clear that it wasn’t going to live up to expectations. The overall cleanliness of the train was lacking—dirty windows, sticky surfaces, and an overall sense that the environment hadn’t been properly maintained. The energy onboard matched the atmosphere: dull and unwelcoming. What stood out the most was the extremely rude and unprofessional behavior from bartender Kathy. Her attitude was cold and dismissive, making it uncomfortable to even approach the bar. It felt like guests were more of an inconvenience than anything else. It’s a shame, because the location and idea of the train ride have so much potential. But between the poor cleanliness, bad vibes from the staff, and the overall lackluster feel, it ended up being more frustrating than fun. I wouldn’t recommend it unless some serious improvements are made in both hospitality and upkeep.

Horrible… Overpriced… Overrated… Underwhelming Views - There were 92 people on this 800 passenger train. This 90 minute train ride turned into 5 hours! We were stuck because someone thought it was a good idea to places passengers on this train that had been out of service for 5 years without forewarning us. There was no communication whatsoever and all of us had no clue what was going on. The customer service was atrocious waiting for that long with no word you’d think they’d provide complementary water or tea in the meantime but NO they didn’t. I was able to take a whole nap on this train wake up and still be in the same spot. It was my birthday and they made me pay for the slice of cake that they gave me. To top it all off when they finally get the train to start moving we had to go backwards because if we went back into town they were going to be fined for not renewing a contract with the town to operate there. All of these things I learned after getting off the train because the people that were still at the station told me. But the excuse was that there is no phone service so they couldn’t tell us but the people on the train that worked there with the walkies didn’t try and communicate to their team so that people had some kind of idea what was going on. People including myself missed out on other plans they made for after this 90 minute train ride and they didn’t want to refund us everything that we had to buy on this train because they wouldn’t give a comp… this train makes 2-3 rides daily and they paid to fix a train that wasn’t working for 5 years but they have the nerve to just say sorry. This is a money grab. The scenery isn’t that great at all. You can see a better view of mountains just driving through the state. Their communication was horrible and didn’t tell us a thing about why the train wasn’t moving This train ride is suppose to be 90 minutes and it’s no joke a 20 minute train ride they just stretched it out Don’t believe the hype it’s paid!
