Experience of a lifetime!!! Luis rocks! - This tour was amazing from start to finish! The hotel pickup was on time and we were taken to another meeting point to get on a larger bus where the official tour kicked off. Our guide, Luis, was THE BEST- so knowledgeable and great energy! He was constantly ensuring we were all having fun and everyone was safe throughout the day. The tour was well organized and was a good combination of relaxed yet structured - left us enough time to enjoy ourselves at every stop while still staying on schedule. The food at the Mayan lunch buffet was good and the experience at the Mayan community was very interesting. I’ve traveled all over the world and done many tours and Luis and crew were by far the best tour guides I’ve ever had!! Memories to last a lifetime - definitely worth booking! Side note: would be helpful if the tour company provided some more details regarding logistics beforehand- make sure to bring towels and water shoes for the Cenote in addition the bathing suit and plastic bag or something to put wet clothes in after. Also the tour drops you back off at your hotel in the evening - that wasn’t clear to us in the description. We got picked up at 8am and dropped off around 9pm. The lunch buffet wasn’t until later in the day so be sure to eat a full breakfast beforehand :)

MUY BIEN/ GREAT! - Papaya (driver), Chris and Raul were awesome! We were hesitant to book because we had never done an excursion via third party but I do not regret it!! It was a long day (12 hours) but WELL WORTH IT. We learned so much and had fun while doing so. We speak Spanish and English but these tour guides are so talented, they offer this service in multiples languages. We cannot wait to come back and book with them again with our family next time! Pro tip: plan accordingly, bring change of clothes, comfy shoes & if you can snacks because it’s an ALL DAY THING.

Great experience - Hi there, The tour guides from EkinoxTours; Lewis, Daniel and Perfecto + the driver were amazing. The Tour guides were very engaging and put a lot of effort into explaining the different parts of the tour and history of the Pyramids and Mayan Culture. I would definitely recommend for a full day tour. Thank you, Simren

Great tour! Perfecto the tour guide was amazing. - The tour was amazing. Our tour guide Perfecto was fantastic! He was very knowledgeable and explained the Mayan culture in a fun, easy to understand manner. He kept everything light and fun while still making sure everyone was taken care of. He answered all questions. Made for a super fun day! Couple things to note: it’s a super long day. A long drive from Playa to ChichĂ©n ItzĂĄ, so if you’re not down for a road trip this tour might not be for you. Bring water to keep yourself hydrated. The tour guides give you a couple bottles of water but it’s a long day. I wish we had more time at the Ik Kil Cenote. We only had an hour, so by the time you get through the crowds, change, walk down to the Cenote, you only have maybe 15 minutes to swim. Then you gotta hustle and change but not the end of the world. The culinary demo and small village of craftsmen are very interesting. Valladolid was beautiful. Overall great tour! Great bucket list and experience.

Not too impressed with the guide!! - We purchased the one day tour to Chichen Itza and Cenote. The communication was not clear about the $40 extra for the entrance fee for Chichen Itza on top of the tour charge of $89 ($79 + $10 for pick up at the hotel). On top of it, there were no options to pay that charge electronically on the day of the tour. On the way to Chichen Itza, the tour guide Luis cautioned us against buying anything from the vendors at the pyramid site. He mentioned that we will get a chance to buy souvenirs at the place where we will be stopping for lunch break. But the prices at gift shop near the lunch restaurant were ridiculously exorbitant!! Moreover, there was not much to choose from. We were extremely disappointed!! The tour guide should have been more outspoken and realistic about the shopping options. We lost our one good opportunity to buy some nice art and craft items that was available at the site. Lunch buffet was not great either. Drinks were not free and that was also not communicated to us ahead of time until we asked the guide. We were not even allowed to carry water bottles from the bus to the restaurant. At least water should’ve been served without extra charges!! My family and I love history... but the guide spent way too too much time explaining, repeating and elaborating. He could have explained more concisely and allowed people to explore the monuments on their own giving them enough time to enjoy the place and take pictures. I am neither too happy not unhappy about this experience. The nice weather and the beauty of Chichen Itza compensated for the other not so good experiences!!

A bad tour guide can kill the experience - We booked from the Catalonia Riviera Maya resort, selecting this tour because although it was the higher priced alternative, it looked more detailed (included a stop in Valladolid) and interesting. Hotel pickup was by minibus, so it was a *big* relief when after 15min we stopped at the side of the highway and transferred to a proper tour bus! We were accompanied by two tour guides, a Spanish-speaker for the larger group, and an English speaker (Perfecto) assigned to look after our smaller English-speaking group. Quite early in the trip there was a clash between Perfecto and one of the English-speaking tourists, and while the rest of us tried to be especially attentive & responsive to Perfecto from that point on, it did not seem to help as he seemed to remain angrily withdrawn from that point onwards i.e. for the next 12+ hours. During the long drive to Chichen Itza the Spanish-speaking guide spoke almost continuously to his audience in a clearly very engaging manner, while we waited in vain for Perfecto to speak (I wished I had spent more time learning Spanish). On reaching the Chichen Itza parking lot filled with dozens of moving & stationary buses, he told us to follow a colleague to the washroom facilities, but provided very little guidance on where we would find him afterwards, creating my wife & I (and probably others) a great deal of unnecessary anxiety until we had pushed through the large crowd to visually identify the rest of our group. Not the place where I wanted to get lost and separated from my partner! The Chichen Itza tour went off "okay", but the hangover of our bad start was clearly in evidence. After Perfecto had completed the guided portion of the visit, he released us for time to walk around by ourselves and take pictures, pointing generally towards a wide shaded area containing souvenir stalls were he indicated he would meet us to continue the tour. This led to one more anxious period due to not fuding Perfecto and ending up gravitating to a small group that ended up *not* being on our tour. Fortunately we then saw another couple who we recognized and then reacquired Perfecto. He then loudly announced that he was moving forward, and anyone who wished to follow should stay with him. No guidance on where we wehere headed next, and when one of our group asked to use the washroom the response was "No". The Cenote portion was similarly short on guidance regarding times & places, though to be fair we were able to get him to drop us off at the lockers & lifejackets where we could change before heading down to swim. The Cenote is beautiful, and it was a fun experience. The "Mayan Cuisine" portion was completely underwhelming: Perfecto again made himself scarce, the food was edible but not in any way interesting/authentic, and the whole performance was clearly geared towards squeezing as much $$$ out of us as possible (the big labelled tip bowl on the table was hard to miss!). We we then led off to the "museum" for the opportunity to load up on high-priced souvenirs (labelled in US$ for our convenience). Overall this segent of the tour went on way too long, I imagine because of commissions to be earned on purchases & gratuities). The journey to Valladolid was similarly devoid of English-speaking guiding, and when our bus parked adjacent to the town square we were told we could explore but must be back in the bus within 30min for departure: this was just enough time for a brisk walk through a few craft shops, across the town square to see the outside of the feature church, and then quickly back onto the bus. A pity our time was dragged out at the food stop; it would have been better spent taking in the culture of this fascinating Spanish colonial town. Approaching the coastal highway, everyone was starting to get curious about their drop-off details, and if you were a Spanish-speaker you were getting all the details so you knew what to expect and when to be ready to disembark. Perfecto remained out of sight until at a certain point the bus stopped and we were instructed to transfer to a minibus waiting to take us the rest of the way to our hotels. That's it. For most of us It costs a load of money to get to the Mayan Riviera, and a chance to visit archeological treasures like Chichen Itza and natural beauty spots like a cenote are meant to be a highlight and we pay a lot of money to a supplier to make it happen in a safe & enjoyable way. Whole we were happy to have seen Chichen Itza, to have visted a cenote, and to have had a very short look at a historic Spanish colonial town, too much of the overall experience was punctuated by anxiety, and frustration. While Perfecto may indeed be a good tour guide on a good day, allowing himself to be so angered by a clash with just one fellow passenger that he withdrew and punished the rest of us was most unprofessional and left a number of us feeling disappointed & cheated.
