Bioluminescence tour with Alex - a must do! - Alex picked us up from our hotel right on time. 4 others were supposed to go with us but canceled. Alex still took just me and my husband on the tour. We went to his office and donned the wetsuits. It was a short drive to Punta Coco. Alex used his laser pointer to point out stars, constellations, planets and formations. We even saw the Starlink satellites! After stargazing, we headed into the water. Alex did a great job of explaining the bioluminescence to us. He had masks and snorkels so we could go under water to view it. This was an amazing experience that we will remember forever. Alex’s knowledge and humor took this experience to the next level. I hope you can arrange your trip with him! Tips- wear your bathing suit and water shoes. Spray yourself with bug spray. Take only the bare necessities (take pesos for tipping). You don’t need your phone or a towel. Enjoy!

5/5 would recommend! - This trip was amazing from start to finish. Alex and Rodrigo picked us up from our hotel on time and were extremely friendly and funny. We were provided wet suits and water shoes and trekked to the mangroves. Alex was super knowledgeable about the area and stopped to show us stars, planets and constellations. The bioluminescence itself was really cool; we learned where they came from and got to play in the water as long as we liked. All in all, great experience! Also, as a queer couple we felt extremely safe and comfortable. We definitely recommend taking a tour with Alex!

Great fun for the whole family - This was an awesome experience, filled with a science, astronomy and a little magic. I went with my three kids (teens & tween) and we all found Alex to be a great tour guide. His knowledge of the stars and constellations was an unexpected added bonus to the tour. Having the right gear (wet suits, water shoes and snorkel masks really helped the whole experience. We were lucky to have a bright sky of stars, little light from the moon and no mosquitoes in late March. I would recommend this experience to anyone visiting Holbox,

Don’t miss this experience - This was the coolest thing I experienced on Holbox (and maybe anywhere). Alex said “we swim amongst the stars” and that is exactly what it felt like. Very awe inspiring. Alex is a great guide - the kind of person that you would like to spend more time with. He switches easily back and forth between English and Spanish, making you very comfortable. He has so much knowledge of the island, ecosystem and the stars after two decades on Holbox. What a wonderful evening.

Bioluminescent Adventure - The time of the tour is adapted in order to have maximum visibility of the bioluminescent.
It looks like golden dust is dancing off you as you swim. It swirls around in the water when you move your arms around. It is stunning and playful, and tike disappears.
The trip is very well put together in that on the way to the lagoon you see the open sky. As the timing of the tour is set for when there's no moon light, the stars, planets and constellations are very visible. They are then echoed in the water as the plankton dances around you, creating moving constellations.
Alex is particularly knowledgeable, respectful of nature and safety conscious. He ensures an optimum experience for the whole group. We had an exceptional experience and highly recommend.

Biolumincescence is an Amazing Experience - The Bioluminescence Experience is top of my list of things I enjoyed about Isla Holbox. Alex was friendly, warm, funny and engaging. Our group consisted of five people plus our guide, Alex. He has outstanding knowledge of an expansive nature - from plankton to the stars in the galaxy. It is not a given that you can see this phenomenon every day so if you get a chance, please take it. We are so glad that we did.

Fantastic experience - Magical experience. We enjoyed an unforgettable night thanks to Alex. They have come to pick us up at the hotel, from there they took us to their facilities where they offer you a wetsuit, water shoes and diving masks. Plus size suits are available. Then they take you to an area called Cape Coconut or something, where there is very little light pollution. Alex explains everything very well, he sees the milky way, he shows you the planets and the constellations and if you are lucky you see some fireflies and shooting stars. Then he explains the bioluminescence and plankton and you can see the bioluminescence in the water. It is a unique experience that has surprised me a lot and I am very grateful to Alex for being so friendly and friendly. I have a very fond memory of you and I wish you well. A hug

Unique experience! - It was really well organized. Should have seen everyone once in their lives. Were picked up at 04:00 so you have the best experience (due to the moon phase).

Scam, nothing to do with bioluminescence - Biggest scam ever. They can sell it about going for a walk to watch the stars but it has nothing to do with the bioluminescence.
Not fair for tourists, it isn’t nice…

Unsafe, unprofessional experience (remote with crocodiles) - I rarely write negative reviews, and I've done a Bioluminescence tour in Holbox before with a much better experience. I'm not easily scared as I scuba dive with bull sharks, dive at night etc. However, this experience made me and my niece very uncomfortable. It's not really a tour company, it's essentially one guy named Alex who brings you to his house to put on a wetsuit, then makes you walk 1 km/0.8 mile through the dark mangroves with lots of tripping hazards (no flashlights allowed because it's light pollution and then you have a lesser view of the stars). Even after we specifically asked for the flashlight on the way back because we were scared, we were told no. You can't take photos either or flashlight with your phone because we had to leave our phones in the taxi. With the other tour in Holbox I got to swim from the beach with lots of people/tour groups, but Alex took us to the most deserted area to swim in the lagoon. In my experience lagoon + mangroves usually means crocodiles, so I decided to reassure myself by asking Alex if there were crocodiles there, expecting to hear "of course not". Instead, the literal answer I got was "what you think, you attract". Not very comforting. I got out of the water quite quickly as it was completely dark and because Alex started joking about crocodiles on Holbox. There is even a sign by the lagoon that says there are crocodiles there. Please read the few negative review before booking, I only looked at the average rating.
I also did not like the 30 minute lecture on the stars, since I didn't book a stargazing tour, but that's of course personal preference. The guide wasn't friendly either, he didn't even say bye to us because he knew we weren't happy with the tour.
