Private tour in Cozumel - We are a family of four that wanted to go a little bit off the beaten path in Cozumel. We signed up with the Cozumel Taxi Tour as they offered us the ability to customize what we would see. The first thing you should know is that the cost for this tour covers the taxi, the driver, some soft drinks, and a guided driving tour. Any entrance fees are additional, and paid at the location. Pickup was simple. We were given a description of our driver Cantaro, and finding him was easier than getting out of the cruise terminal. From there, we confirmed our tour length and locations to visit, and we were on our way. We had a quick tour of the city, then went to the ruins at San Gervasio. From there, we drove along the far side of the island and stopped at El Mirador. Finally, we took a trip into Punta Sur and explored the area there. Cantaro was very professional, gave us a lot of insight into the history of the island, and gave us a lot of time to look around without rushing us. He recommended some food venues, but we passed as it was getting later in the afternoon. The minivan was old, but very clean and comfortable. Would certainly recommend the Cozumel Taxi Tour if you're looking to change it up from the day resorts and walking around town.

Great day in Cozumel with Gerry as our tour guide - We have used Tours Plaza several times in the past. I contacted Eduardo and asked if he had availability. I asked if Gerry was available after I researched and found several positive reviews for Gerry. Gerry was the BEST!!!!!!!! He was the most polite, helpful tour guide possible. He made sure our day in Cozumel was perfect. We went over our bucket list for the day and he made sure every item was checked off of it. He took the best care of us. He would walk us across the streets while we were shopping, come inside the stores with us to insure our safety, carry our bags for us. We saw several parts of Cozumel we had never seen before. We thoroughly enjoyed our day with Gerry.

Viator Dishonest - When I booked with Viator, I specified that the three of us wanted a five hour tour which concentrated on Mayan archeology and culture. Basically what Viator gave us for a significant price was a taxi driver with limited knowledge. We were never told that our “guide” would not be permitted to enter the Mayan archeological park. He could only drop us off on the outside and wait for us to exit. For just over 1/10 of what out Viator “tour” cost us, we hired a superbly knowledgeable and personable guide on the inside of the archeological park. His name was Erick Martinez (cellphone +52 987 141 1202). He was everything we wanted. We negotiated the tour price with him personally and we ended up giving him a 50% tip. That’s how good he was. We ended up spending two hours with Erick within the archeological site. He gave us an incredible wealth of information about the Mayan origins within the Olmec civilization - out of which both the Aztec and Mayan civilizations emerged. Religion, culture, and language for both the Aztecs and the Mayans came out of the Olmec and reflected similarities. He also explained that his parents and he are Mestizos (mixed race) - but his mother is much more Mayan and speaks the Mayan language fluently, whereas his father is more Spanish and does not speak Mayan. Viator should hire Erick directly. People could hire a taxi to take them to the archeological park, wait for them while they tour with Erick and then take them back to the ship. We ended up getting what we originally wanted, but not because of Viator or through them. All we got from Viator was an expensive taxi back and forth from the ship to the archeological site. Our Viator supplied driver was personable and pleasant. He had cold drinks for us and snacks. Not his fault that he couldn’t give us what we wanted - because of his lack of knowledge and because Mexican law would not permit him to enter the archeological park. What we were most unhappy about was the failure by Viator to explain the reality of what they were offering. Their booking was deceptive and dishonest.
