Highly suggested - The tour was amazing. The weather was hot but we got the necessary (water and snacks) to go through the tour. Ezechiel, a local tour guide, makes sure to give all informations and answers all questions about the ancient site and mayan culture and makes sure everyone it's fine and enjoy the tour. He also knows a lot about the biosphere and try to show as many animal he can. For sure you will se monkeys, birds and others animals. For the jaguars and pumas depends. At the end we also got a simple but tasty lunch included. Everything it's super worth it.

Incredible experience - I made the family trip since Xpujil, the transport arrived at the time combined to the hotel for the visit, driver with good driving, local guide with very good knowledge of the ruins and the biodiversity of the place, were provided water and fruits in abundance, and when we finished the visit we already had the table prepared with lunch. I highly recommend this visit, the archaeological area in the middle of this natural reserve is amazing, in addition to being able to climb the pyramids, seeing the animals loose in nature is a good complement. We regret to know that the archaeological excavations of this magnificent area have been stopped for about 5 years, not showing the public all the buildings that already exist and that will continue to be lost.

Great tour company for visiting Calakmul ruins - If you are planning to visit the Calakmul ruins then I would highly recommend Ka'An Expeditions, which is run by and for the local community. It's a full days trip, with the journey from Xpujil, where we were staying, to the ruins taking two and a half hours each way. You get about with three hours at the site, and a sandwich lunch is provided. Our guide, Manuel - who we picked up, together with his mother who works at the ruins, from their house just outside the park entrance - was excellent and knowledgeable, not just about the ruins but also about the biosphere in which they arer found, and made the visit much more interesting than it would have been if we had visited under our own steam. Overall we had a fantastic day, and were rerally glad to have used Ka'an Expeditions. Note that you need to have strong legs and a head for heights to climb the ruins - go now though while its still possible to do that, and before the hoped for crowds brought the area by the Tren Maya turn Calakmul into another Chichen Itza!

Great day at Calakmul - Manuel as our guide and Ivan as our driver both made our trip to Calakmul a great experience. We were a group of 6 in total, and that was perfect. We climbed three pyramids, saw spider monkeys and howler monkeys and turkeys, and had a great cold lunch at the parking lot afterwards. We are happy we booked this tour.

Left Xpujil and after approximately a two hour trip, we got to Calakmul. We investigated the ruins, climbed the pyramid. - An amazing trip to Calakmul from Xpujil. Bianca was our guide. She was excellent, not only did she know the history of the Mayan ruins, she was very informative about the jungle and all the wildlife around us. Would heartily recommend.

Gorgeous vistas at Calakmul with Manuel - We did the tour with Manuel. It was good! We drove our own car behind the van and left after the tour - so missed lunch - but the whole experience was good. Some wildlife - lots of birds and monkeys. Next time I would hire a private guide versus doing the tour (unfortunately we had two toddlers in our group who screamed non stop - there really should be age restrictions on participants for the enjoyment of all guests). Climbed all structures and have some gorgeous photos.

A poor tour - I unfortunately cannot recommend this tour. One major reason for me to take the tour was to skip the difficult drive from Xpujil to Calakmul (considering we had to drive all the way from Bacalar already), but the reality is that in 2025 the road to the site is actually quite a nice one, albeit a bit narrow. The tour lasted 3 hours, and the guide was pressing us in order to keep the tight schedule, but the site is so massive that we ended up having to rush through it, and it did not feel nice. Lastly, the advertised "picnic right at the archaeological site. Surrounded by ancient monuments and the tranquility of the jungle" ended up being just a cold sandwich and a salad that we consumed in the parking lot of the site. This really was a bad ending to our journey. Especially if you have visited other Mayan sites, I highly recommend to go to the site on your own. If you need a guide, try to arrange it so that you can go at your own pace and not having to rush it.
