A wonderful and unforgettable experience - The People Water Land tour was a humbling and deeply moving experience. Our guides, Janet and Ron, shared some of their Homalco nation’s history and culture with such grace and generosity. It was a real honour to be invited to Aupe. To hear it’s story through Janet and Ron has given me a much needed insight into the history of this area. We can’t wait to come back again and learn more. The trip includes a nature and whale watching experience along the way, and the most beautiful landscape. i:mote to everyone at Homalco Tours.

Thank you for sharing your culture - The staff were amazing. Callie and Al were the best tour guides. The boat was comfortable and perfect for the trip. I really appreciate Callie sharing her stories, songs and culture with us. The wildlife definitely accommodated us and we had amazing sightings of whales.

excellent cultural and nature activity in beautiful Desolation Sound - We had a wonderful day with our guides - they were friendly and enthusiastic. The cultural stories, and learnings were very important, and interesting. This area of Desolation Sound is spectacularly beautiful, and it was so meaningful to learn more about one of the nations who has lived here for time immemorial. We saw a bear on the beach we were meant to land on and the guides were careful and aware of how to ensure we could see the village site safely.

A genuinely enriching cultural tour - We were hoping to do the bear tour, but discovered we were a week too early and would be back in the UK by the time of the first bear tour of the season. So, we decided to do the People Water Land tour, as we are interested to learn more about First Nations culture. We absolutely loved our trip! Cassie & Ron were excellent guides, explained about marine culture and wildlife, as well as their own culture and traditions. On the boat journeys to and from Aupe we slowed and stopped several times, seeing humpback whales, Orcas and dolphins from a safe distance (for us and them). When we reached Aupe, we could get straight off the landing craft and it was fascinating to see and hear about how life in the territory was until the mid 1960s from Cassie and Ron’s first-hand memories and experiences. We had the opportunity to make a Cedar bracelet and listen to Cassie singing a song for missing women and girls. This trip comes highly recommended and will leave you with lasting memories!

An Experience of a Lifetime. I highly recommend this company. - I was so fortunate to have won this trip and what a perfect gift. I brought a friend along, who also had never been on any excursions before, and we had the best time. The staff are so wonderful and helpful. We saw 6 humpback whales, sea lions, seals, bald eagles, a black bear, and stunning scenery. We learned about the history of Church House and learned about the plans for the future. It was truly magical. I cannot thank this company enough for giving me this opportunity and this gift. I definitely recommend them and I look forward to when I can attend the grizzly bear excursion. Cassie, Ron and Sharon, thanks so much! I apologize in advance for the lousy photos. I think after this experience it is worth purchasing a new one.

Highlight experience on Vancouver Island - I highly recommend this tour. Janet provided helpful and interesting facts about the whales. We saw about ten humpbacks and 3 orcas which was very exciting. We visited the site of a first nation's village of Aupe, and both Janet and Captain Ron shared personal family stories of the importance of the place. On our vacation, we were committed to choosing 1st Nation companies and lodgings. This tour was a highlight of our trip.

Great tour with a lot of wild life and ghost town - We got to see a lot of wildlife, humpback whales, sea lions and orcas. As well as a goose with 3 little ones🥰 We visited a abandoned town of the Homalco First Nation, that was really impressing. Great guides and skippers Cassie and Ron I totally loved the tour, thank you very much

Culturally rich and meaningful experience with a connection to stories of the land - Amazing people, stories and culture. I was on the People Water Land tour and it was definitely one of the highlights of my trip. It was worth it to find a wildlife tour that's owned by an indigenous group because it made the experience so much more cultural, meaningful and connected to the stories of the land we were in. It's also great that the profit from these tours go back into benefiting the people, the land and the wildlife as well. Our guides, Cassie and Ron, were very personable and knowledgeable. Hearing Ron's firsthand stories of growing up in the village site we visited and stories about the people who lived and had connections to this village were very compelling. Cassie also taught us many words from their traditional language, told us cultural stories that she grew up hearing and even performed a song for us. Listening to her sing the MMIW&G song in the forest overlooking the village site and the sea was a very special moment that's etched into my memory. Our guides were also very well-prepared with knowledge about the wildlife that we saw on the tour and took great care of everyone on the trip. We saw alot of humpback activity. The boat ride was very comfortable with both indoor and outdoor seating and they even provided us with a pair of binoculars since we didn't bring one. It was a very serene and relaxing ride. We also weaved a cedar bracelet, which I didn't think much of before the tour, but it was alot more significant to me when I was actually creating something with my hands in the forest and it felt really good to bring home a physical piece of my memory there. Also, the clearing where we weaved the bracelet was beautiful. Amazing view and a great place to sit on the ledge for a picture or just to watch the calm waters below. Thank you for such a welcoming experience and for sharing so much of your culture with us. I enjoyed it so much that I might come back next time for the bear tour as well! TL;DR: Highly recommend if you're looking for a more culturally rich and meaningful experience from guides with a strong and personal connection to the stories of this land.
