Highlights
  • Fortescue Bay - Get up-close and personal with the southern hemisphere’s highest sea cliffs and resident Australian fur seals.

We start our adventure with a 1.5-hour scenic drive from Hobart to the Tasman National Park. This exhilarating adventure will then have you kayaking under some of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, gazing up at 200-metre-high fluted rock formations, peering into natural sea caves, photographing the towering Candlestick, and searching for climbers on the Totem Pole - a sheer column famed amongst thrill-seeking rock climbers.

We enjoy a gourmet Tasmanian lunch at a deserted cove, paddle over a semi-submerged shipwreck and marvel at the abundant marine wildlife that lives along this coast, including resident fur seals, soaring sea eagles, diving gannets, cliff-nesting cormorants, peregrine falcons, and if we’re lucky - a pod of dolphins or a migrating whale.

While kayaking experience is not necessary this tour can be physically demanding and you do need to be able to paddle at a relaxed pace for up to five hours (we do stop for snacks, drinks, photos, lunch and just to enjoy the view though!).

Stunning Fortesque Bay - day paddle - Excellent paddling in Fortesque Bay with Roaring 40s. Guides Damian and Maron (sorry I’m not 100% sure of the spelling) were professional, attentive and friendly throughout the day to ensure we all had a good experience. Kayaks are suitable for the conditions and they also provided all the necessary safety gear as well as some outer layer clothing in case paddlers needed it. We have paddled with Roaring 40s on multi day trips previously and jumped at the chance to paddle this with the company again and in such a stunning part of the Tasman Penisula. Thanks again for a great day out on the water.

Sublime - Allie and Rob were impeccable guides for our group. We were scooped early in the morning and driven to perhaps the most picturesque bay I have visited in Australia- Fortescue bay! We were graced with a glorious summer day and weak southerly breeze. With limited experience kayaking we were on our way soon, and didn’t take long to become more comfortable in the steering of our kayaks. The views were spectacular of the candlestick rock formation, and generally it was a breathtaking experience being so close to so much nature in such a non-intrusive manner. Allie and Rob were impressively informative whether it be about the natural habitat or insight into indigenous culture of the area. They were both super easy going and approachable. I’d jump at the chance to do another kayaking tour with them and Roaring 40s again.

Amazing kayaking experience - Absolutely amazing experience 6 out of 5 stars - we were lucky with the weather and our guides Rob from Canada and Allie from Texas were super knowledgeable and made this experience super special. We felt safe and well supervised at any given time. We cruised along the coastline and got to see some seals sitting on the rocks , playing in the water. Had a sandwich lunch in one of the secluded bays of Fortescue bay and then headed slowly back to the main beach. Very well executed tour , thanks to our guides Rob and Allie and all the other paddlers. If you’re unsure to book this one : I can highly recommend it !!

An amazing day - The day tour was amazing. The views were breathtaking and watching animals in their natural habitat is the best you can imagine. Our guides, Allie and Rob, were super. They supported first time paddlers, had a deep knowledge about geology, about environmental protection and the history of the peninsula. The trip was very well organized, on time, lunch was delicious, just a highlight when in Tasmania.

Multi Day Tasmania Peninsula Tour - We did the multi day trip based in beautiful accommodation right on the beach at Pirates Bay, Tory & Grace, safely guided us to see amazing sea caves & cliffs, seals, birds and stunning landscapes North & South of the peninsula and then also cooked amazing meals for us for the whole week. Great experience & paddling adventure, with time to relax with a wine on the deck looking at the ocean at the end of each day and planning the next days paddle. Tory & Grace’s knowledge, enthusiasm & paddling skills provided a very interesting and enjoyable holiday, well done Roaring 40s. Looking forward to our next trip with you guys.

Great fun and physical challenge - We did the 4 day Tasman Peninsula kayak with Arron and Jonah. We had great weather and the guides gave us sufficient challenge to make it quite exciting( the best bit was paddling thru the gap between Cape Huay and the first Lantern). Food both on the trips and at the beautiful house we stayed in was yummy and it was nice not have to prepare it after a days kayaking. Spa at the house was a real treat.
