Cairo - Following breakfast, continue the tour of Cairo, including the Cairo Museum in Tahreer Square. The museum houses remarkable ancient Egyptian antiquities from various periods, including the magnificent treasures of King Tutankhamun, whose tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. The treasures, including the famous 11-kg gold mask, were moved to this museum. After lunch, visit the citadel of Salah al-Deen and the Mohamed Ali Mosque, followed by a trip to the oldest bazaar in Africa, the Kan El Khalili Bazaar.

Accra - After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a scenic drive around Accra’s commercial and administrative areas, visiting the following sites:

• W.E.B. Du Bois Centre, honoring the life of the prominent Pan-Africanist who chose to live and work in Ghana.
• The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, with its beautiful grounds and museum, is a great place to learn about Ghana’s first president. It also serves as the final resting place for the late President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
• Adjacent to the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum is the famous global marketplace, the Accra Arts & Crafts Centre. Test your bargaining skills at the largest open market in Accra while shopping for stunning authentic African wear, arts, and crafts as souvenirs for family and friends back home.
• Drive by and make a brief stop at the Independence Arch and the Black Star Square, Accra’s ceremonial grounds.

ACCRA – ASSIN MANSO – ELMINA

Elmina - After breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Elmina, a historic town that played a significant role in the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

On the way, stop at Assin Manso Slave River, the burial site of two former slaves from the U.S. and Jamaica, whose remains were re-interred in August 1998 during Ghana’s first Emancipation Day Celebration. See the “Slave River,” where captured Africans were washed before being confined in the Slave Castles to await shipment to the Americas and the Caribbean.

Next, enjoy a walking tour of Elmina Township, including the fishing harbor, where you will witness the colorful fishing boats bringing in their daily catch.

Transfer to your resort, settle into your comfortable beachside accommodation for dinner and a good night’s rest, and prepare for the next day’s activities.

ELMINA & CAPE COAST

Elmina - After a leisurely breakfast, visit the Elmina Castle, also known as Fort Sao Jorge de Elmina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in 1482. This castle marked the first European contact with West Africans when the Portuguese arrived in 1471 and was the first structure built in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Continue with a short drive to Cape Coast to see Cape Coast Castle, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take an emotional journey through this thought-provoking monument, which held more enslaved Africans than any other in the region, viewing the dungeons and the infamous “Door of No Return.” Inside, a significant historical museum explains the history of the castle and Cape Coast itself. You can purchase literature on Ghana’s forts and castles, as well as the cultural history and traditions of Ghana.

Return to the resort and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Kakum National Park - After breakfast and checking out from the hotel, take a scenic drive to visit Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s remaining tropical rainforests. Spanning over 360 sq km, it is home to over 40 large mammals, 400 bird species, and numerous species of butterflies, flora, and fauna. Challenge yourself on the Canopy Walkway, the most popular attraction, consisting of seven bridges extending 330m, hanging 30m (100 feet) above the forest floor, or walk through the forest to discover the wide variety of exotic floral species and their medicinal values.

Return to Accra, arriving late in the afternoon. You will be transferred to the hotel for an overnight stay.
