Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - The tour continues with a visit to the prominent Al-Rifa’i Mosque, situated opposite the Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, which dates back to around 1361. This structure was designed to complement the older mosque as part of a 19th-century initiative by Egypt’s rulers to link themselves with the esteemed past of Egypt’s Islamic history while modernizing the city. The tour proceeds to El Sultan Hassan Mosque, the largest in Cairo, also known as
Madrasa El Sultan Hassan, established by Sultan Hassan in 1356 A.D. This mosque was uniquely designed to house schools for all four Sunni schools of thought: Shafi’i, Maliki, Hanafi, and Hanbali. - Sharia Al Mu’izz Li-Din Allah - Next, the tour heads to Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo, also known as the mosque of the most resplendent. Commissioned by Al-Mu’izz li-Din Allah of the Fatimid Caliphate for the newly founded capital in 970, its name is believed to honor Fatimah, the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, who is revered in Islam and known as Az-Zahrā, meaning the shining or resplendent one. It was the first mosque built in Cairo, a city now dubbed “the City of a Thousand Minarets.”
- Al-Hussein Mosque - The tour then moves to Khan El Khalili Bazaars, famous for their exquisite brassware, copper, perfumes, leather, silver, gold, antiques, and more.
Conclude the day with a visit to El Hussein Mosque in Cairo, a sacred site believed to be the burial place of the head of the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson. At the end of the tour, the guide will return guests to their hotel in Cairo.
