Additional Information

Tuvixeddu is one of the seven hills that make up Cagliari, filled with historical artifacts, ancient religious practices, and enigmas. Most notably, it houses the largest Punic graveyard in the Mediterranean. The Carthaginians, between the sixth and third centuries BC, selected this hill as their burial ground, carving tombs directly into the rock. Later, it was repurposed during the Roman era. But why was the death cult so vital during the Punic age? How did traditions, rituals, and burial methods evolve through the transitions from the Phoenicians to the Carthaginians, and eventually to the Romans?

Visit in the realm of the dead - One of the seven hills is the Necropolis, the town of the dead. The burial place of the former Phoenicians and Punics. Its approach is a bit complicated. We took a bus number 8 but we had to walk a lot. Bus number 1 would have been better. We wandering among the tombs carved into the limestone. Some of them are 3-8 metres deep. It’s free and I think it’s worth a visit.
