Operating in the sector for more than a decade, we’re the only firm that employs a professional guide and a Marine Biologist as the lead guide. We assure you of top-notch service and authentic information about the bioluminescence and ecosystems we explore. Our founders, two Marine Biologists, established the company with a mission to reveal this incredible natural spectacle to everyone. That’s why numerous customers choose us, seeking intriguing facts, a safe setting, and the opportunity to interact with the Marine Biologist.

  • Every guest must be capable of independently paddling their kayak. A prerequisite is your capacity to ingress and egress the kayak on your own, and to be able to navigate it. For novice kayakers, we strongly recommend the earlier tour.

The maximum permissible weight for each person is 220 lbs. (no exceptions), and guests’ weights will be checked on-site.

  • The owner of the service animal must provide a Licensed Life-vest by the Coast Guard for the animal. The animal must be in total control all the time. Keep in mind that there will be many people around in the dark.
  • Minimum age 6 years
  • Guest under 18 yrs of age must be accompanied by an adult
  • For safety reasons pregnant women cannot participate. (NO exclusions)
  • Kayaks have a weight limit of 220 lbs. per person. (NO exclusions) To assure weight restriction is met, guests will be weighed on-site.
  • Guests must be able to row their kayaks - guides will assist when needed but they will not tow the kayak
  • Our kayaks are all tandem kayaks for two people - you are booking per person not per kayak.
  • Guest that are not able to complete the tour for any reason will not be provided a refund of any type.
  • All guests must be able to row their kayaks by themselves. One of the requirements is that you are able to get in and out of the kayak on your own and be able to maneuver it. If you are an unexperienced kayaker we highly suggest you choose the earlier tour.
  • If one space is left, that means there is 1 space (for 1 person) on a tandem kayak (No single kayaks available). You will be accompanied by another guest on the tour.
  • All guests must arrive 30 mins before the start of the tour. The drive from San Juan can be about an hour and 20-30 mins depending on traffic. Please plan accordingly
  • Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way. When crowded conditions warrant, Pure Adventure will provide extra guides for your safety.
  • Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary.
  • In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills

No need to go to Mosquito Bay. This place is incredible. - Tour guides were amazing. Journey through the mangroves was beautiful. The bioluminescence under the tarp was insane. Dinner at the restaurant near the shop after was one of the best in Puerto Rico.

Magical and unique. - Very professional, safe, organized and magical. The guides were great and the experience was truly unique and magical. Only suggestion would be to incorporate a little more paddle training for the newer people as it was challenging for some to navigate the canal back in the dark.

Magical Excursion with Knowledgable Guides - Wife and I took our 3 young sons (10, 8, 6) on the tour that started around 6pm. Guides were Javier, Natalia, Catalina, Enrique and Amaury. The guides gave a nice brief of what to expect prior to departure with instructions for kayak newbies. With our odd number and small children, we had the two younger ones ride with me. Kayak trip to the bioluminescent bay is relatively short (1.5 miles) and has multiple tours moving through the mangroves. To a degree it can feel congested, but definitely safe and pretty easy trip. Once at the lagoon, we were treated to a nice sunset before being encouraged to whisk the water to see the bioluminescent in action. Tour guides provided knowledge to all about the lagoon, the flora and fauna, a little history and astronomy. Seemed very knowledgable, engaging and encouraging. We were fortunate in that the bioluminescence was very visible as it got darker and it is a unique experience to see your hand glow as it moves through the water. The trip back through the mangroves is also magical as it is dark and you are guiding by the lights on the kayaks. Would recommend for anyone who wants to experience this unique natural wonder.

A must do in Puerto Rico - This kayaking tour was outstanding! Natalia, Javier, Enrique, Amaury and Catalina went out of their way to make sure everyone had an amazing time!! From the time of arrival to our departure everything was well organized. Safety was exercised through out the entire so bringing children over the age of 6 is not a problem! I highly recommend the 6 pm tour-the sunset in the big lagoon was the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen! You must witness this bioluminescence langoon. Highly recommended!!
