- Peles Castle - Once a royal summer retreat, this neo-Renaissance marvel is a top tourist destination. It took 40 years to complete, with numerous builders, artists, architects, and wood-carvers ensuring every corner was adorned with silk rugs, Murano glass, Cordoba leather-covered walls, carved walnut, or polished marble.
Each room boasts a unique style or theme, including a mini-theatre, Music Room (India), Turkish Salon, Great Salon (Italy), Council Room (Switzerland), Moor Hall, and more. The Peles armory showcases over 400 European and Oriental weapons from the 15th to the 19th centuries.
Peles Castle was the first in Europe to have electricity, powered by its own plant. It also featured hot and cold running water, central heating, telegraph, telephone, a small elevator for the royal family, and a central vacuum system from the start. The stained glass roof of the foyer opens mechanically.
