‘Haft Kul’ or ‘Seven Lakes’ represent a series of cascading water bodies nestled in the Fan Mountains of Tajikistan’s northwestern region, close to the city of Penjikent. These mountainous lakes, with their striking and continually transforming hues, leave spectators in awe. Each lake carries its unique name: Mizhgon greets majority of the visitors first being the lowest, followed by Soy, Khushor, Nofin, Khurdak, Marguzor (the biggest), and Hazorchashma (the highest).
Embedded within the Fan Mountains, the Seven Lakes are located within the Shing River’s gorge. The unearthing of ancient petroglyphs along the shoreline of one of the lakes suggests their significant age. Mizhgon, the lake at the lowest altitude, is situated at 1,640 meters, while the lake at the highest altitude, Hazorchashma, is positioned at 2,400 meters. The vertical distance spanning the lowest and highest lakes measures 760 meters, while their horizontal distance exceeds 14 km.
