Highlights
  • H3V3+W2 Chera - Let’s embark on a journey to Chera for a scenic circuit around the Buseo reservoir. This trek offers us expansive views of the reservoir from various perspectives. Along the way, we’ll encounter the majestic waterfall known as el Chorrero de la Castellana.
The Buseo reservoir is a picturesque location that evokes the beauty of Swiss scenery, created by the construction of a 40-meter-tall dam in the Reatillo river’s channel, at the gateway to the slender Tormagal gorge. The dam, crafted from cut stone masonry between 1903 and 1915, has the capacity to hold 7.5 cubic hectometres of water. This volume was sufficient to irrigate the entire Valencian garden at least two and a half times annually.
It stands as the most ancient reservoir in the Turia basin and was the largest in the Valencian Community upon its inauguration, until the Maria Cristina reservoir in Castellón was finished in 1925. However, it maintained its status as the largest in the province of Valencia until 1952, when the Benagéber reservoir was constructed. Subsequently, its role shifted primarily to serving as a tourist attraction.

Great hike - Demetri was a great guide, very professional at all times. The walk was amazing, it was varied underfoot and we had the best views all the way round. It’s 14km with mixed terrain so consider that when booking. If you are up to that it’s well worth the time and cost. I would definitely recommend 5*!

Lake, Waterfall and Pools - A great experience around a big reservoir. There are many great views on the first half of the hike. As reward there is a big waterfall with a nice pool to cool down after the first part. And it is a cool down because the clear water is actually cold and refreshing. The second part leads back around the reservoir to another spectacular pool that offers again the opportunity to see if one is used to swim in cold water. The trail is easy going without difficulties. At some part there are chains / ropes to help a bit. Last but not least. Dimitrij is a great and experienced guide. The drive from and to Valencia felt super save. And on the hike he knows exactly what to do. A perfect day and highly recommended.

Scenic route with swimming cool downs - Well picked route with fantastic spots to swim and viewpoints. Nice physical experience, just good to push you. And getting together with the group before and after in a cafe was a nice experience!

Turquoise lake and beautiful waterfalls - Stunning trip around the reservoir. The hike doesn't have too much elevation, therefore it is also a perfect choice for warm days or if you are a rather beginner hiker. There are some tricky bits on the path but it's fun. You walk a fair amount around the reservoir and have this beautiful turquois water on your left - which is an extraordinary experience. We had two stops for a swim, both at an amazing waterfall. Dmitry is a great guide, always perfectly prepaired, well organized and knowledgable. The sheer beauty of nature in this part of Valencia province is stunning.

Reservoir Ramble - A lovely day hiking with Dmitri. Some stunning views and enjoyed the waterfalls and flora and fauna. Added excitement of taking our shoes and socks off to cross the stream. Dmitri kindly took some excellent photos for us to remember our trip. Would highly recommend.

Surprised by Valencian nature! - I did not expect to see such pretty landscapes just an hour worth of driving from Valencia! The area around the city itself is quite flat, but just when you get past the city borders, the scenery changes dramatically. We went on hike around the reservoir from the village of Chera and it was a great trip. Apart from great views of the reservoir, the hike gives you a chance to enjoy several great spots, including two waterfalls. The bakery visit before the start is a must ;)

Happy Hiking! - I've been on lots of Valencia Mountain Enthusiast's hikes. The guide Dmitry knows all the best places (including the local bakeries) and the hikes are always fun and well organised. This hike was brilliant, there were lots of interesting features like waterfalls, ladders and dams. The nature and views were spectacular throughout. Although it was too cold for swimming when I was there, it's definitely worth a return visit for swimming in the summer. Overall, it was yet another superb hike and I would highly recommend this and other hikes with Valencia Mountain Enthusiasts.

Fun and scenic Chera hike with swimming opportunities and viewpoints - This was a lovely trip in a beautiful part of the countryside within a comfortable driving distance from Valencia. Dmitry is a great guide and knows all the routes very well including the best viewpoints, hidden waterfalls and swimming spots. This route stats and finishes in the town of Chera at the bakery with great apple tart and empanadillas. The route is of a good distance (approx 15k) and undulating to give views, but without any very large steep hills to trudge up. The terrain is interesting without being technically difficult. I'd recommend this route because it's not based around a single large hill, so the walk is interesting throughout and doesn't get boring. The scenery includes beautiful red cliffs and a deep blue reservoir. Dmitry is an excellent organiser and arranged all transport to take us all comfortably to Chera and we just relaxed and enjoyed the day. I recommend this route and any other trips with Dmitry.
