Busan Gamcheon Culture Village - Begin with a convenient hotel pickup in Busan. The tour kicks off with a visit to the vibrant Gamcheon Culture Village. Originally established by war refugees, this village features houses built in a staircase-like fashion on the slopes of a coastal mountain. In the 2000s, Busan’s city government initiated a revitalization project, adorning the village with colorful murals and sculptures, earning it the nickname “Machu Picchu of Busan.”
Haedong Yonggungsa - Located on the northeastern coast of Busan, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple offers a unique seaside setting, unlike most Korean temples found in the mountains. The main sanctuary was carefully reconstructed in 1970, preserving traditional colors. Inside a cave on the right, you’ll find a distinctively designed Buddhist sanctum. Notable features include four lion statues, the 108 steps, and stone lanterns dotting the rocky landscape. Midway down the steps, enjoy the soothing sound of waves and the breathtaking sunrise.
Cheongsapo Daritdol Skywalk - This 72.5-meter-long and 20-meter-high observatory, shaped like a blue dragon, extends dramatically over the ocean. The transparent glass floor offers a thrilling experience, allowing visitors to see the ocean beneath their feet.
UN Memorial Cemetery - The Korean War was the only conflict where the United Nations participated collectively. This modest piece of land, owned by the U.N., serves as a burial ground for United Nations Command (UNC) casualties of the Korean War. It holds 2,300 graves and is the world’s only United Nations cemetery.
Diamond Tower (Busan Tower) - Busan Tower is a renowned landmark offering a 360-degree view of the city. From the top deck, you can admire the entire metropolis sparkling below.
Bupyeong Kkangtong Market - Also known as Kkangtong (tin can) Market, Bupyeong Market gained its quirky name from the variety of imported canned goods available during the Korean War for U.S. forces. It was also called “Dottegi (bustling plea) Market” and “Gukje (International) Market” due to its vast array of rare goods. Although the market has shrunk as foreign products are now widely available, its reputation endures. Imported items like liquor, clothing, accessories, and electronics are still sold here.
Enjoy food tasting at Gukje Market or Bupyeong Kkangtong Market, featuring spicy rice cake, crispy fried squid, fried chicken (Gukje Tongdak), and stir-fried ice cream for dessert.
BUSAN - GYEONGJU UNESCO World Heritage Tour - BUSAN
Seokguram - Nestled in Tohamsan Mountain, Seokguram is Korea’s iconic stone temple. This precious grotto has remained intact for over 1,200 years, thanks to its design that ensures natural ventilation and humidity control. Cold spring water flows beneath the structure, directing moisture to the floor.
Bulguksa Temple - Bulguksa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a historic gem of the Silla Capital Gyeongju. Visitors can admire the era’s sophisticated masonry skills in its stairs, bridges, and pagodas.
Cheomseongdae Observatory - Cheomseongdae is Asia’s oldest astronomical observatory, built during Queen Seon-deok’s reign to observe stars for weather forecasting. This stone structure beautifully combines straight lines and curves, forming a cylindrical shape.
Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond - Gyeongju Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond served as the secondary palace for the Crown Prince and hosted important national events and visitors.
BUSAN - Day Tour in Tongyeong + Oedo-Botania Island with Haegeumgang in Geoje
Tongyeong - Depart from the hotel and head to Tongyeong (2 hours). Known as the ‘Napoli of Asia,’ Tongyeong boasts harborside hotels, cafes, and shops. It’s famous for seafood, especially oysters, and is a top holiday spot for Koreans.
Experience the Tongyeong Cable Car & Skywalk - The panoramic view from the cable car is unparalleled! Ascend to the peak of Mireuksan Mountain at 461 meters above sea level. The cable car, the longest in Korea, spans 1,975 meters, offering a thrilling ride and stunning views. At the summit, brave the skywalk for a breathtaking panorama of downtown Tongyeong and Geojedaegyo Bridge. The harbor’s boats resemble the many islands dotting the sea, justifying Tongyeong’s “Napoli of Asia” moniker.
외도 - Oedo-Botania, a marine botanical garden in Hallyeo Maritime National Park, offers stunning views of the crystal blue South Sea. Located 4 kilometers from Geojedo Island, it’s a 20-minute boat ride from Gujora Port. In 1969, Lee Chang-ho discovered this island while fishing and, with his wife, transformed it into a breathtaking landscape over 30 years.
In April, the island blooms with a variety of flowers. The Venus Garden features twelve sculptures and a Western-style garden. At Paradise Lounge, enjoy the sunshine and sea with a beverage. Oedo boasts camellias and rare flowers from around the world. Descend the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ for views of the beautiful garden and ocean. Magnificent terrace landscaping lines both sides of the stairway. Oedo Paradise Island is truly a paradise.
Haegeumgang Theme Park - Geoje Haegeumgang River, a highlight of Geojedo Island, is dubbed the Geumgang River (Sea Diamond) of the South Sea. This rock island, part of Hallyeo Marine National Park, is a designated green area in South Korea. Originally named Galgotdo for its arrowroot-like shape, it’s now known as Haegeumgang River, meaning Geumgangsan Mountain in the sea.
The most stunning views of Haegeumgang River are at sunset and sunrise, best seen from Ilwollbong Peak or Lion Rock. Shipjagul Cave, in the center of Haegeumgang River, stretches 100m east to west and 180m south to north.
Dongpirang Village - Dongpirang Mural Villages are a major cultural attraction in Tongyeong. Located east and west of Tongyeong Jungang Market, these neighborhoods were once eyesores due to disrepair. Residents opposed demolition and, with volunteers, transformed the area with whimsical murals. Word-of-mouth quickly made it an attraction, inspiring Seopirang to follow suit.
The murals, created by amateur artists, give Dongpirang Village a friendly, approachable vibe. The love each artist had for the village is evident in their styles and colors.
Yi Sun-shin Park - Dedicated to Admiral Yi, who defended against Japanese forces during the Imjin War (1592-1598), Yi Sun-shin Park features a 17.3-meter-tall bronze statue of Admiral Yi gazing out to sea. Near Tongyeong Harbor, the park offers views of the port, fishery market, and Dongpirang Village. Escape the city by following the park’s boardwalk, where sculptures create great photo opportunities and the ocean breeze soothes.
Tongyeong Jungang Market - Close to the coastline, this market offers fresh and dried fish, mother-of-pearl inlaid wares, quilted products, and rice cakes. Sampling local cuisine is essential! Tongyeong’s specialties include Chungmu-style gimbap, uzza (noodles in udon broth and black bean sauce), honey bread, and ppaeddaegi juk (porridge made from dried sweet potato). Chungmu-style gimbap, with just white rice wrapped in seaweed, pairs well with seokbakji (radish kimchi) and ojingeo eomuk muchim (spicy squid salad). Uzza combines udon with jajangmyeon for a unique taste. Tongyeong honey bread, a fried bun with red bean filling coated in honey, makes a great gift. Find these local foods at Tongyeong Jungang Market, a must-visit on your itinerary!
