Additional Information

Embark on a private walking exploration of the vibrant city of Budapest, centered on the tumultuous political past of Hungary. The journey unravels the story from Nazi Occupation, through the ascent and descent of Communism, to the emergence of democracy.

The tour commences from Bem József Memorial Square, a place that witnessed 200,000 Hungarian students rally against the Soviet dominance in 1956. Stroll down the Falk Miksa street to find a surprising statue of Columbo, the renowned fictional detective from LAPD, noted for his unkempt looks and dogged pursuit of facts. Proceed to the grand Kossuth Lajos square to marvel at the expansive Neo-Gothic parliament building, the seat of the national assembly.

Lastly, explore the House of Terror museum along with your private guide. This institution stands as a dark reminder to the grim horrors of the past, commemorating those who were incarcerated, suffered torture, and were murdered within its walls. It hosts exhibits from Hungary’s fascist and communist regimes of the 20th-century.

A wonderful tour - This was a wonderful tour. Adam, our guide, had an extensive knowledge of history, and generously shared his experiences of growing up in a communist regime. We went to a fabulous retro communist museum, which was huge, and a lot of fun. Tour is highly recommended.
