Is it feasible to hike to Hungary’s highest peak from Budapest in a single day? Surprisingly, yes! The journey begins in Budapest with a lengthy bus ride to Mátraháza. From there, a longer uphill trek through stunning beech forests leads to Kékes, the highest peak. At the summit, a towering telecommunication structure with a panoramic terrace offers a breathtaking 360-degree view, enhancing the experience. The descent from the peak includes a visit to a small andesite cave and the remnants of a medieval castle. After passing through Mátrafüred, the hike continues to the iconic Kozmáry-lookout, where a magnificent view of the Mátra mountains and the southern plains awaits. Finally, a bus ride from Mátrafüred returns to Budapest.
