Highlights
  • Central Market Hall - Preparing delicious authentic dishes together with friends or family from fresh local ingredients is a defining part of Hungarian tradition.

With this experience I’m hoping to create and share some of these moments with you, so hopefully you’ll walk away full, with new and amazing recipes and memories of Hungary.

We’ll meet up at the front of the iconic Central Market Hall of Budapest and gather fresh seasonal ingredients from local merchants depending on the season and availability.

After we’ve acquired the ingredients for the dish, we’ll take a short 5-minute walk to a “Budapest” style flat, and we’ll get ready for cooking!

Before we begin preparing the dish, we’ll snack from some of the ham, sausage or cheeses that we earlier bought from the market.

The plan is to learn to make one traditional dish, based on family recipes from Hungary and Transylvania.

Once the dish is cooking, I’ll bring out my collection of Hungarian Post cards from the 1900’s that will show you how Hungary looked a 100 years ago, and if you like one, you can even keep it as a unique memory!

(Ingredients, drinks and snacks are all included in the price!)

What's Included
  • Carbonated beverages
  • One authentic post card of your choosing from the 1900’s
  • Snacks

Great food and social experience. - George was a wonderful host to our 10 person group. We met him at the market where he provided a great introduction, purchased the food and provided a quick history and toast with Polinka. It was a short walk to his nice apartment where we all participated in preparing and cooking a delicious meal of chicken Paprikas. Overall a great afternoon and I highly recommend it.

Colors and flavors - Marcel knows his stuff. As with most Hungarians, he has another job. He chefs at an Italian restaurant! We made paprikash and dumplings. Very flavorful! Realized that at home in US I was not using nearly enough paprika and to make is worse, I was burning it. Marcel showed us around the colorful market and brought the neighborhood to life. Plus we had a fun group from all over to enhance the whole experience.
