Additional Information

Join a cozy group tour of up to 8 travelers to the renowned Transfagarasan route and to observe the native brown bears in their habitat. Additionally, we’ll glimpse the Poienari Fortress, often recognized as the real castle of Vlad the Impaler - Dracula. However, the fortress is currently undergoing repair works so we’ll have to appreciate it from the exterior.

Thereafter, we will soak in the panoramic vistas of the Argeș Valley and venture into the Fagaras Mountains national park.

Our subsequent stop is at the Vidraru Dam and Lake, where you could take in the gorgeous lake views as well as the magnificent dam. Nestled amongst the mountains and verdant forests, this lake is home to the highest concentration of brown bears in Europe. They prowl in the forest and sometimes venture out onto the roads.

Later, we’ll arrive at the Transfăgărășan, a spectacular mountain path constructed during the 70’s for defense purposes.

Our journey will be punctuated with a halt at the striking Goat Waterfall followed by a visit to Bâlea glacial lake, where we’ll spend a full hour and a half.

  • On the mountain the temperature is 15 degrees Celsius lower than in Bucharest, dress thickly!
  • The Poienari Fortress is currently under renovation and you cannot visit the interior.
  • From November to May access to Balea Lake cannot be done due to heavy snow and avalanche risk
  • It is not allowed to consume food and hot drinks in the vehicle
  • Wearing seat belts is mandatory throughout the journey

Get Your Ticket 🎫 - Awesome tour with Stephanos. He was a top notch tour guide. We had a blast seeing so many sites, including 26 brown bears, foxes, glacier lake, beautiful mountains, and the real Dracula house

Highly Recommended - We had a fantastic day! In the mountains we were able to see various bears up close and take photos of them from the car, the view of the landscape and waterfalls from the pass road was great and we were even able to have a little snowball fight. We were lucky to be in a very small group. Our guide was very committed to showing us a lot and was open to our wishes, great! The lunch in the restaurant is a bit simpler but incredibly delicious. It's really worth trying something regional. The drive from Bucharest is long, but with a good and relaxed driver in a modern, well-maintained car it's no problem. We're glad we didn't let that put us off!

Bears, and many incredible landscapes - Our trip was absolutely unforgettable! We had the chance to observe numerous bears, and when we reached the top of the mountain, the expansive blanket of snow was truly breathtaking. The sights throughout the entire journey were nothing short of spectacular. Victor proved to be an outstanding guide, consistently kind and incredibly knowledgeable. Many thanks for such a remarkable experience.

Husband's Favorite! - We really enjoyed this! Even though part of the road was closed, it was a beautiful journey. We saw foxes and of course the famous brown bears. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took good care of us. Had lunch at an authentic Romanian restaurant with a beautiful view near the top of the mountain. We would highly recommend!

The natural beauties of Romania to discover - This is a tour that allows you to mainly admire the natural and mountainous beauties of Romania departing from Bucharest. Well organized tour managed with a small group in a minivan with driver who also acts as a guide. You cross a very beautiful road with vegetation. We are having reached an altitude of 1700 meters above it was not possible to go on a closed road... we saw a truly breathtaking landscape. The food we ate in the chalet recommended by the guide was excellent. On the way back, the fantastic surprise of 7 bears... it wasn't a given given that which in April may still be in hibernation. The guide Bodgan is very professional and friendly as well as an attentive driver. It is certainly a long tour but in my opinion it is unthinkable to come to Bucharest and not do it. Price in line with what is offered

Best of Romania - The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We luckily seen 7 bears. The tourist guides experience of feeding apples to the bears got us a closeup of the bears.

Amazing views and bears! - Amazing views and a couple of bears! We couldnt get all the way to the top because of avalanches, but it hardly mattered, and is just a good excuse to come back and do it again in the summer! Our guide Bogdan was friendly and informative. The regular lunch spot was closed, but he found us an excellent alternative. All in all a lovely day, plenty of rest breaks and nice to be in the fresh mountain air.

Good trip - Very good day in a small group. Our guide was great and gave us a lot of interesting information. The landscapes are magnificent and we were lucky enough to see twenty-six bears and two foxes, which is exceptional! The vehicle is spacious and comfortable. However, I find that the price of the excursion is very expensive given that the meal is not even included in it. Be aware that you will spend more than half of the excursion in the car but that is inevitable I think… I nevertheless recommend the excursion.
