• Poenari Citadel - Poenari Fortress is a historic citadel in Romania, perched on a steep cliff in the Carpathian Mountains. Constructed in the 1970s, this dramatic route features sharp hairpin turns, sweeping curves, and breathtaking views of rugged peaks, valleys, and waterfalls. A favorite for road trips, it connects Transylvania to Wallachia and offers iconic landmarks like Balea Lake and Poenari Fortress along the way.

• Capra Waterfall - Capra Waterfall, located in Romania near the Transfăgărășan Highway, is a spectacular natural attraction. Cascading from a height of over 40 meters, this alpine waterfall is fed by glacial waters and surrounded by lush greenery and rugged mountain landscapes. Easily accessible during the summer months, it offers visitors a refreshing stop with stunning views and the soothing sound of rushing water.

• Balea Lake - Bâlea Lake is a glacial lake situated at an altitude of about 2,000 meters (6,561 feet), making it one of the highest lakes in the country. Bâlea Lake is accessible only in the summer and autumn months via the Transfăgărășan Highway. In winter and spring, it is not accessible due to the risk of snow avalanches.

The journey begins with a visit to Curtea de Argeș Monastery, renowned for its impressive frescoes illustrating religious themes.

Following this, there is a stop at Poenari Fortress, once a strategic bastion of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration for Dracula. Although the fortress is currently under renovation and cannot be accessed inside, it can still be viewed from the outside.

The tour continues to Vidraru Dam, a remarkable feat of Romanian engineering. Constructed in the 1960s, this towering dam holds back the shimmering waters of Lake Vidraru.

The drive then takes you into the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains National Park.

A stop at Capra Waterfall allows for the appreciation of nature’s beauty and the breathtaking landscapes.

The tour concludes at Balea Lake, situated at an altitude of over 2000 meters, where the renowned Top Gear Road can be admired.
