Bâlea Lake - Bâlea Lake is a glacial lake located at an elevation of about 2,000 meters (6,561 feet), making it one of the highest lakes in the country. The lake is celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, encircled by rugged peaks, dense forests, and alpine meadows. Bâlea Lake is accessible only during the summer and autumn months via the Transfăgărășan Highway. In winter and spring, it is inaccessible due to the risk of snow avalanches.

This intimate group tour, accommodating a maximum of 7 passengers, seamlessly blends history, engineering wonders, stunning natural scenery, and often provides the opportunity to observe Brown Bears in their natural environment.
The journey begins at Poenari Fortress, a former strategic bastion of Vlad the Impaler, the figure who inspired Dracula. Although the fortress is currently undergoing renovations and is not open for interior visits, it can still be admired from the outside.
Following this, the tour proceeds to Vidraru Dam, a remarkable feat of Romanian engineering. Constructed in the 1960s, this impressive structure contains the shimmering waters of Lake Vidraru.
The tour continues with a drive into the heart of the Făgăraș Mountains National Park.
A stop at the Capra Waterfall allows for appreciation of nature’s beauty and the breathtaking landscapes.
The final destination is Balea Lake, situated at an altitude exceeding 2000 meters, where the renowned Top Gear Road can be admired.
- From November to May, it is not possible to reach the Bâlea glacial lake due to the thick layer of snow and the risk of avalanches

- The belvedere point with the winding road it is accessible only from June to October.
- We will NOT visit the interior of Poenari Fortress, we will only see it from below - outside. To enter in Poenari Fortress you have to climb 66 floors on the stairs!
- You will meet our guide at 7:45 a.m. We suggest you come 5 minutes early. Being a group tour, we can not wait for you after the mentioned time.
