Additional Information

Local Hosts transfigures visitors into locals, and residents into sightseers.

Understanding the need for small breaks of refreshments and snacks during a tour, we’ve incorporated them into all our expeditions.

Come along with us for a unique experience accompanied by intimate groupings and unexplored scenic routes!

This tour is an appeal to the adventurous, audacious, and vivacious. We kick start our journey from the Old Town via subway, leading us to the town’s oldest, beautiful burial ground that stands as an alfresco museum, akin to Père Lachaise. Enthralled by its intriguing tales, we advance through a bustling park overshadowed by tourists but adored by locals. Following that, we pay a visit to Romania’s oldest railway station, and then proceed to the erstwhile KGB headquarters nearby. Our rest stop is an antique factory converted into a culture center—an ideal place for distinctive souvenirs and recharging. Lastly, we guide you through a concealed route to an archaic Mahalla, an oriental term signifying ‘neighborhood’.

Location
piața Sfântul Anton
Meeting point inside the Old Town, behind the Manuc Inn and in the open space called St. Anton Square with plenty of benches around.

Great tour in Bucharest, not just for turists. - Although I live in Bucharest and know the city quite well, I decided it was worth going to the Bellu Cemetery / Museum with a guide, Mircea was able to show me another face of the city and to arouse my interest to find out more about the city in witch I live daily, to transpose myself with his stories in a part of Bucharest and in historical moments of the city too little known to me. Thank you Mircea, you are a great guide, I do not know how time went by. I can drink a cofee anytime with you just to find out more about this peculiar city we live in.

Great tour of old Bucharest neighborhoods - Me and my wife took the tour out of curiosity after a friend mentioned it to us. Even though we're both born and raised in Bucharest, we had never truly paid attention to the places we visited during the tour. Plenty of things we had never heard about. You could tell the guide puts passion into his work. Well paced. For us, it turned out to be an afternoon well spent.

Lovely tour of Bucharest - Although I know Bucharest relatively well, having been a regular visitor since I was a child, I found out a lot of stories during this tour that made me understand the city in more depth - particularly in terms of its history. I was especially into the part creepy-mystical, part heart-breaking/warming stories of the intellectual and commercial elite of the 19th and 20th century in the Bellu cemetery - great to have a local host to guide you through that maze and share the stories! But also to see the parts of the city that are associated with the marginalised and the poor, and the lesser known city locations that gave me more of a glimpse into Romanian communism and its heritage. I fully recommend it, and suggest you ask the host as many questions as you can! It's definitely a dialogue thing. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it!

Interesting alternative route for Bucharest - We did this on a beautiful spring day and we enjoyed it very much. Never been to cemeteries before with a guided tour, so this surprised us. Nice local people and food on the tour. Thank you

Fun Day Out - Mircea took us through the Bucharest historical tour with great passion. Let a local tell you the real story. It is a great way to learn about this city full of beautiful contradictions through its monuments and architecture. It was a 5 hour walk, but it feels like it ends so fast. Mircea obviously loves his city, his commentary was both informative and entertaining, and the little nuggets of history he threw in really helped us appreciate the areas we moved through. Thanks again Mircea and everyone at Local Hosts!”
